I kind of got off of gaming for a few days there, but I will hopefully get to Later Alligator possibly tonight but more likely Sunday or Monday. I've made minimal progress in Clair Obscur since my last update. I think that might be in the very next location, but perhaps I cleared another.

I last played this in 2019, but I had a hankering to give it another whirl after really getting into some deckbuilding roguelikes in the 2020s. I enjoy this a lot more now. It doesn't hold a candle to the likes of the Monster Trains and Balatro, but I view this game in a positive light now.

The game was clearly inspired by Wario Land 4, so if you found Pizza Tower too hard, try that instead since it is part of the GBA pack on NSO (I don't know if you need the expansion subscription tier or not)

I'm in the middle of Clair Obscur, coincidentally the first proper fight against that old man Renoir, but I have no issue with getting in the perfect range on offense, but dodging and parrying I'm going to always struggle with (not a complaint, just an acknowledgement).

Speaking of that aforementioned fight, they made me fight with a pre-selected trio, and early on, I lost Lune to being vanished/snatched, and had to rely on Verso and Maelle. I focused on Renoir not knowing that his summons would heal him, so I just let him kill me after recovering nearly all of his health. Now I am at the nearby save flag, and I can actually choose my team this time and also dole out some attribute points, so I'm feeling much better about a rematch.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (Switch)

I remember trying to rent this at Blockbuster as a kid with no luck. I later got it on Ebay as a teen in the late 2000s. By that point, I had already played through several Paper Marios and Mario & Luigis and thinking that while good, those games were a lot more entertaining.

Now that it has been 15+ years, unless the remake somehow cut content (I highly doubt it), I was surprised that my final save file clocked in at just under 10 hours. Not that I'm complaining because I like an RPG that always marches forward with nice pacing and little bloat.

Now that I have played even more Paper Marios and Mario & Luigis (all except Mothership or whatever the new M&L is called), my feelings on this game is pretty much the same. It has a nice foundation that those two series improved upon.

At first when I looked at the topic title, I thought you meant level of play and was curious why that was something you were asking.

I have now cleared Act I of Clair Obscur. Aside from the very dumb death of Gustav because it was only made possible by an impromptu rock toss, I had a great skill setup with him and Lune, so with that Mark/Burn/Heal synergy gone, I guess that I will need to come up with something else as Sciel was a great third member with her isolated setup working well with anything.

I'm still not the best at defensive maneuvers (it really depends on the enemy), and now they added a fourth to my repertoire. Oh boy, am I going to be in trouble lol.

My main issue at this point is the overworld. The camera makes it off-putting, and the lackluster map combined with a lack of a mini-map doesn't incentivize me in any way to explore, so I just fumble with what I'm given and hope that I can swiftly reach my next destination.
