I got every star in 1-5, would watch the intros over and over, would come to gamefaqs and discuss suikoden v when it dropped and obsess over the missable characters and lore
Suikoden really made me appreciate a story thats grounded in reality and human endeavor. Instead of having a convoluted world and plot like a lot of other jrpgs, it was just a political war drama with a billion characters all struggling to make their country a better place. Later on in life I got obsessed with game of thrones, and i made a dnd campaign where the players had to recruit a bunch of npcs to win a war, and i think i owe all that to suikoden. So yeah, thank you yoshitaka muriyama for creating something genuinely new in a genre that can often feel pretty samey, and just for inspiring me for life. Ive been listening to the suikoden osts all morning, and ill be there day 1 for eiyuden (as if that was ever an option lol) --- I'm the original TomNook7 from the old days. Team skull and alolan forms - whats not to love? They used new systems to get rid of HMs. Banging soundtrack. Why did people hate this gen so much back then?

Wolf became one of the most used characters in Ultimate for a little while. And they literally made amiibos for all 89 characters so everyone could have one of their favorite character. And I really dont see why everyone is here couldnt happen again in a brand new game over time.

Ultimate has spoiled you if 39 characters is "comically small" Smash for wii u had 20 more than that, and that was ten years ago. Ultimate has 50 more than that. So yeah, going back to a compact roster for the next generation of Smash is insane. Also what about stage and item variety? Smash isnt like Tekken where every character has this massive repertoire of unique moves and animations. The average Smash character only has like 30 moves total. And if they made a new game, they still have access to all of those old character assets. They wouldnt have to rebuild an entire game from scratch. So yeah I dont think staying with Ultimate forever is the right approach. Theres still plenty of ways they could push this game forward with new physics, rebalancing, better graphics, accessibility options, even something like a heat or rage meter like Tekken (because smash balls kinda suck lets be honest.) Ask any competitive smash player, and theyll tell you how much Wii U feels different to play from Ultimate. I think omniscientless has the gist of it. This shit is just too linear, easy, and hand-holdy, almost to the point of mindlessness. RPGs in general were on fire by 2019, and theres just no excuse for something as big as Pokemon to be this shoddy I think as pokemon fans weve tolerated a lot of poop over the years just because its pokemon, but we deserve better than this man. I take a lot of pride in curating my nintendo switch collection, and unfortunately i think sword and shield gotta go And now im scared for Sun and Moon, but thats gonna have to be a story for another day And Ushi just enjoy Legends for what it is lol. Being able to throw the Pokeball as a mechanic meant the player could micromanage like a dozen different things at once. Throw one Pokemon out to collect a berry, throw another out to fight something, throw another out to catch a weak Pokemon. Take all the useless Pokemon in your PC and turn them into candy. Accidentally run into super powerful Pokemon in the wild and they literally kill you, which made exploration more meaningful.
It gamified and sped up a lot of the core experience, and personally it's been really hard going back to same old after playing it. Also the story was horrendous, but who cares --- I'm the original TomNook7 from the old days. The other guy is just TomNook. Know your TomNooks. |

In my opinion, in terms of mainline games (so no remakes, no secondary games like Arceus): what in the world lmao I genuinely don't know how people can enjoy S/V lol. I literally cannot fathom it. Even if you fixed all the bugs and framerate issues, it's still fundamentally busted. I remember I discovered an entire city, and there literally wasn't anything to do in it. I've never in my life seen an open world game where you discover things that don't matter. I mean, sure, there was a sandwich shop, but who cares?? Why were those games so obsessed with sandwiches lmao?? And then you go to a gym, and play completely busted mini games. Or go to a team base, and instead of battling Pokemon like normal, you participate in some god awful mini game that bypasses battles, and then you fight a giant car? I originally thought Sw/Sh were fine; it was the maximum of bullshit i was willing to tolerate. The gym leaders and battles were fun at least. But now im starting to second guess that.
