ive actually played it like 30 times in a row over this year
i had to play it 4 times to try out all 16 jobs because even the OG 6 jobs got slightly tweaked
then i had to play it a 5th time on new game plus which is a mode that doubles all enemy stats but starts you already promoted.

then i had to do 1 job teams for all 16 jobs
so 4 fighters
4 red mages
4 white mages

and then after that a feature is you can leave a party slot blank and play the game with just 3 characters or just 2. or solo
so ive been trying to solo with every job
so far ive soloed the game with

fighter
thief
black belt
red mage
white mage
black mage
blue mage
dancer

im currently working on solo geomancer

no but i did see barbwire the pamala anderson movie that is basically a remake of casablanca

no gender options but the white mage, red mage and evoker are all androgynous that they could pass for either gender depending on the player

well the dancer, green mage and upcoming spellblade are all clearly women

i love beetlejuice
and yeah alec baldwin was hot as fuck back in the day

the evoker adds the most new content as you have to fight a new boss fight to get all of their summons so thats 16 new bosses if you put an evoker on your team

i did talk to a mod about this months ago and was told i could talk about this game i just cant tell people how to get it.
but this is a fan made game made with the unity engine. its a complete recreation of the NES version of final fantasy 1
only it has none of the bugs that the NES had
and it tweaked the 6 main jobs a bit so they play slightly different like the thief can no find hidden items on the world map including new weapons and armor

and they added 10 new jobs to pick

evoker
dancer
geomancer
bard
trainer
blue mage
time mage
dark knight
green mage

but its still very true to the experience of the NES
but its getting an update in october and its adding spellblade and archer to the job choices and im looking forward to it

i prefer xenosaga overall but it has a good story and good combat.
if i were to list what i dont like about it that list would be

• the narrative shafts anyone who isnt fei, citan or elly. characters like rico and maria may as well be wallpaper. they supporting party members needed more plot relevance. billy and bart are a bit better handled
• it has some of the worst dungeon designs i have ever seen
• disk 2 is a massive drop in quality
• Chuchu exists

and on a personal note and this is just my own bias. but i dont like the mech combat in the xeno games. so its really frustrating that eventually thats all the combat is reduced to

Eternal Sonata

it is such an interesting concept of the entire story being chopins dying dream and all his works being used as the music of the game
and all the musical references in general in the combat as well.

whats funny is my all time favorite game is the xenosaga trilogy. ive played it a ton of times over the years
didnt get around to playing xenogears for the first time until last year

you have to narrow it down as the tales franchise is very inconsistent
some of them are the greatest action rpgs around and others are the most meh thing in existence

i love the horror asthetic and the creativity shown by having it be set in real world history only with fantasy elements as if they were normal.

i missed chaos wars and last story
but those are easy as ive never played either of them so i have nothing to say positive or negative about them
same with legaia 2
i like the first legaia game just fine but legaia 2 is on my backlog and really far down the list

FF6 - you can suplex a train. there is a lot i can talk about positively about this game as it is my favorite FF game. but nothing is gonna top the fact that you ca suplex a train

grandia 3 - although it falls apart on disk 2 i really loved its first dis. and yeah the mom was a great character. she should have stuck around the entire game. her being on the team was such a unique idea and she was clearly the best characte

tales of the abyss - luke has one of the more interesting story arcs of any jrpg leads ive seen. going from spoiled brat to humbled to the point of deperssion to hero was really interesting to follow

I can do it myself but feel free to add. Earthbound. Never liked jrpgs where battles are just sprites of the enemies and you don't see any kind of attack animation. But the game being a oddball with some charm carried me at least over half way through the game before I got bored of it.

7th saga has the black mage type character be named esuna and i find that funny.
its also funny that rpgclassics an old website seemed to think esuna was a man and i dont know how they could make that mistake.
i dont consider a game like brain lord to be an rpg

it was the first dragon quest to feature a party system and im not a big fan of solo character jrpgs like DQ1 so im glad it nipped that potential trend in the bud

Aretha: The Super Famicom

I like its colourful graphics and cute style but I found it to be a slog. It weirdly never shows how much damage you do to enemies so you can't tell which attack works best.

not seeing damage is the worst thing about that game but overall i found it pretty fun. aretha 2 does show the damage numbers

i once had to get my wisdom tooth extracted. for some reason the the numbing needle wasnt working so i kept telling the dentist it hurt. i sat in that chair for 3 hours and no matter how many times they jammed my gums with a needle it hurt when they started trying to remove the tooth. finally i got sick of sitting in the chair so i just kept my mouth shut about the pain. i wanted it over and done with so i just sat there feeling every painful second of a wisdom tooth extraction.
what got me through that was thinking "this is still a more pleasant experience than the time i played lunar dragon song.

I know it's super popular but I can't stand Earthbound (SNES). The battle system is just so gross looking and dated and slow. I need at least FF4 style or Lufia I style battles to enjoy the game. Even FFMQ is better.

you have fun quality of life things that other rpgs of the time lacked like auto winning when encountering weak enemies. goofy fun story. trippy visuals and hilarious enemies like the new aged retro hippie

the mainline shin megami tensei series was always made for masochists. the spin off persona franchise was made for people who arent playing games as a cry for help

Octopath Traveler

its just plain beautiful to look at. despite its flaws the individual story arcs are all pretty good. the combat is great for boss fights and the world is vast and fun to explore and you are often rewarded for exploring

ive played a lot of jrpgs over my life
like i honestly think there is a good chance ive played more than anyone on this board
i can usually find something i like in any jrpg

but the two that i went away from with absolutely no positive experiences from are

lunar dragon song
lufia ruins of lore

both were terrible and such a shame that these are the notes that the lunar and lufia series went out on
the first 2 lunars and first 3 lufia games are all great

Maybe the difference between both versions total playtime is load times?
I haven't played the original in a long time but maybe loading screens are shorter in the remaster which could add up to a lower playtime
