What is Game of the Month Club?
Game of the Month is a community project open to all B8ers where users share, discover, play and/or discuss a select few games every month. The games featured each month are chosen by YOU the users (and Lady Luck)

The Basics
- Each month will usually feature three games that were chosen via a random drawing from a pool of games that users nominated
- For each game you beat, you get a cool point on our just-for-fun standings as well as a nomination for next month's randomized drawing
- In order to receive the point and nomination, you must beat said game within the calendar month
- If you beat one of the current month's games in the previous month, you can apply for a "recently beaten waiver," but you will only receive a point and no nomination should you do so
- Drawing for next month's games is usually on the 25th
- If you periodically keep us posted on your progress and/or talk about different aspects of the games, then everyone will obviously think you are super awesome!

Nomination Rules
- You get one nomination automatically each month
- You receive additional nominations each month for every featured game that you beat
- Each game you nominate has to be unique from all other nominations and cannot include a game that has already been selected for GotM
- Each game must be a standalone game that can be acquired and played on its own (aka cannot be DLC/expansion that requires the base game)
- Nominations only carry over if you beat a featured game after the drawing for next month's games but before the end of the month
- You also have the option of supporting 1 game each month. Your only limitation is that you can't support your own nomination

For those new to Steam Secret Santa or haven't participated since 2019 or earlier, it is required that you post links to your Steam profile and wishlist (make sure your account is public so we can see it). I have run into very stressful issues in the past when people didn't, so to avoid being put into such a position ever again, this is mandatory.

If you have participated since I have been personally running this (2020-present), I have links to both your profile and wishlist on record. I will use the next post showing a list of said users and a link to their profiles (in case you aren't friends with everyone already and want to do so). If you want to participate again, make it explicit that you are signing back up and say that my link is correct or you can post the info again in your sign-up post for clarity.

Whether you are new or returning, you can also provide supplementary info to help your secret santa such as PC/laptop specs, favorite games/genres, or anything else you feel like sharing to aid them. I also highly recommend going through your wishlist from now through the end of sign-ups and re-order things and also remove some games you are no longer interested in. It's also fun, to me, to go through the wishlists of others and discover some games you are now interested in.

Once the sign-up period ends, everyone will be randomly assigned a secret santa. You'll receive a PM (you can request a Discord DM if you would prefer that) with who you'll be giving a gift to. Please send out your gift or gifts by December 25th. The recommended spending limit for this event will be $20 USD, or a comparable figure in your local currency. Again, this is just a recommendation. You are allowed to spend more or less.

I have participated in each of the the previous ten years, and I would like to make it an eleventh year. Since I would be doing the drawing and everything, I would know who my secret santa is. If that sucks the magic out of this for you, you can preemptively opt out of potentially being my secret santa. There's no hard feelings there as I totally understand.

Sign-ups are open from now until December 17th at 11 PM ET. A quick search indicated that the winter sale will begin on December 19th, so assuming that is correct, I can get everything sent out via PM (or Discord DM upon request) here on the 17th or 18th and give people time before the sale to think of some potential gift ideas.

While most of us live in places where gifting isn't an issue, there are cases where users from different countries are unable to send a game or games to someone due to regional price differences. While it is a pain, I suggest that you find a game or combination of games that are not flagged in that manner. If you do insist on a particular game or have any other issue sending out gifts, please let me know, and I'm sure the issue can be resolved. For one year, as an example, I had a Canadian user who couldn't send any gifts to their US giftee because of regional price differences, so I had them send me a Steam gift card, and I bought and sent the games on their behalf.

Also, if you could post here once you've received your gift I would like to make sure that everyone sent/received gifts as well as cataloging everything for fun info like most-gifted game and how many different games were gifted.

Are we doing Secret Santa again this year?

Yes, I was planning on putting up the topic on December 1st like usual, but I suppose I can put it up tonight.

Ghostwire: Tokyo (XSX)

This was an unusual experience not for what it offers but how I felt about everything. The coolest part of the game was the world and exploring it. I think this would have made for a very cool open-world stealth game if they would have gone in that direction and obviously structure the gameplay around that. Alas, I felt that combat was always off with its dodging, spells and spell cycling, and 95% mob-based encounters when I just don't think their mechanics work well for more than a one or two enemy fight. I liked the talismens, but those were obviously meant as a seldom-used novelty with their low capacity and relatively expensive cost.

Also, at no point in the game did I find the plot or characters interesting, and it took me way too long to finally skip cutscenes.

I have been going through in my mind all the potential tiebreakers for the Pioneers, and I just don't see how they lose out on tiebreakers in the end, so I'm calling a playoff spot for them even if the game hasn't done so.

A win over the Colts should clinch a playoff spot for the Jags as they would have seven conference wins and head-to-head wins over six win teams in the Broncos and Pats

Browns and Titans are certainly eliminated with a loss or wins by the Express or Broncos. Other elimination scenarios are with even with a win and losses by Express and Broncos.

Bills should be eliminated with a loss to the Pats plus a win by either the Express or Broncos.

A loss by the Dolphins and/or Pats win would not necessary eliminate them (it would prevent them from winning the division), though an Express and/or Broncos win would make their odds shrink even more.

This project began in the fall of 2013, and the game was made for the 2005 season. In the 11th week of our 20th season, we have now been operating in the future (Week 11 occurred on November 20th and featured games that were played on November 24th and 25th).

I've done some new game+ with Hinterberg, and you have the option of starting the social stuff from scratch or retaining them and their bonuses. I was curious to see how long it would actually take to become best buds with everyone, and there's a decent chunk of people who just aren't showing up each day, both characters that I have and haven't completed socializing with. I don't know if that was a bug, an oversight, or by design.

That further cements to me the social aspect being the weakest part of the game.

I wasn't advocating for anything. I just wanted to mention that approximately a third of the songs that I listened to were 6+ minutes long for anyone that wants to know for amusement or feedback purposes.

Got a Moltres EX from a booster pack then that elusive Charmander from the free Wonder Pick and knocked out three themed collection quests in the process

And I have finally made new wiki articles for the project. I do have all the raw data if I ever want to make a fancier archive somewhere, but I at least did this much.

The issues before were that there was way too much on the two wiki articles (all seasons were on one, and both the Hall of Fame and Champions were on the other) for both viewing and editing. This presumably went way above normal parameters for Fandom, and the editing process was sluggish as hell. Now that I have things bite-sized, things should be smooth sailing from here on out (maybe Hall of Champions and Hall of Fame each get weird at the end and have to be divided in half).
