That's why whenever I talk about the indoctrination degree of Faux News gaslighting them into a false reality I either lead with Faux -> no news at all or just don't even mention then the Faux -> CNN study, though I do more often than not because 2 separate studies, with different parameters, leading to a similar result strengthens the argument.

9/11 or the Clinton trials probably gave them such a ratings boost, they were required to find a replacement at all times.

Oops, upon rethinking about it, democracy did in the 2000 election when the SC stole the election for Bush by stopping the counting in FL when Jeb was ahead. From there we had Citizen's United and the stripping of the voters right's act, however I think we started to really feel it in 2000. 700k black voters were disenfranchised in that election (Greg Palast is the one who discovered and reported on this, you should check out his stuff on the issue). Palast is also raising the alarm about what's happening in GA with black people being thrown off voter rolls just because someone says like "I don't recognize this person" and without any sort of investigation.

But corporate mainstream media legitimacy died, I think, when they cheerled us into Iraq for ratings and domination of public narrative.

It's honestly the media's fault for not making a bigger deal of Republicans blocking a Supreme Court pick.

That should have been the starting story every day of how Republicans are politicizing the courts. It should have had countdowns like they do with the budget and government shut downs. Instead they just shrugged and moved on.

That's the moment democracy truly died.

At every turn over the last decade the media has completely failed to live up to the moment.

Oh, the media is absolutely a large part of why we're in such a precarious place and this is a good example of why, yes.

As for the moment democracy died, I think it has an earlier origin. Them cheerleading us into Iraq for ratings is when I believe they gave up on responsible journalism and behavior in favor of fearmongering and theatrics. From then on it was all about ratings and trying to control the narrative of the national discussion as opposed to informing us on the facts and the consequences of things with the severity/informative level it deserves.

Strange how the people who insist they need guns to prevent government tyranny are the same ones embracing it.

Because when they say that ultimately what they hope for is that they get to use their guns to kill members of a Democratic administration and either suffer no consequences or be hailed as heroes for doing so.

After the Stoneman-Douglas shooting Trump literally said "seize the guns now, worry about due process later". If ever these people should have had a reason to "use their guns to prevent government tyranny", it would have been then. Instead those same people are also his biggest cultists.

It's always just been them hoping they can get away with killing Democrats without suffering any consequences for it, as Abbott pardoning Daniel Perry and how they hail Rittenhouse as a hero shows us, because those dudes "kill the right kind of people", IE their political enemies.

The only ones who can hold them to any sort of account are vigilante's and other than the guy who shot Scalise during the Congressional baseball game and the one who stood outside Kavanaugh's house with a rifle before calling the police on himself, the only ones I hear willing to get violent towards a political force/entity are right-wingers.

Hell, Dems don't even call in architects of their plan like Leonard Leo to explain themselves and their fascistic goals, they just act like nothing concerning is happening while we get stories about Project 2025 or because they don't want to seem like Republicans for overly investigating things, but damn, it's not the same if there's actually something worth investigating.

Literally watching Faux News puts you into a negative level of being factually informed and merely turning it off greatly facilitates increased factuality lmao.

I also hear semi-frequent anecdotal testimony from various callers talking about how a family member became a better and more down to earth person when they turned off Faux News.

He could have prevented himself from becoming a villain if he would have not latched onto the anti-trans hate train so many celebrities board the first time they get pushback for insensitive statements towards the community they refuse to ponder on or reflect introspectively. Instead of wondering if they said something fucked up, they go full-force into Skinner "no, it's everybody else who's the problem" mode.

I still remember when he defended Kevin Hart because of a comment he was being assailed over he griped that people were coming after the black community and tried framing it as black people vs trans people, a statement that invalidates all black transfolk. He literally made it into an us vs them and from there he just became increasingly bitter and spiteful.

That's a big difference a lot of the people with the "gotcha's" about him punching down on poor black drug addicts are missing. When Chappelle did those jokes or skits he wasn't being hateful about it, yes he was using them as joke material, however it didn't seem malicious. We know that he's malicious towards the trans community and those who give him grief over it because he's made it a major ranting point. It's clearly something that bothers him on a personal level, whereas if the former subject material bothered him it's because he wanted to bring attention to the issue in hopes for change, or at the most cynical just for money.

I know, I'm not talking about then. There was a period where Pence flip-flopped like everybody else, however very recently, like a week or 2 ago, he expliticly stated that he refuses to endorse Donald Trump and that he doesn't know who he's voting for, but he's not voting for Trump.

I guess his career is largely over so calling him "big" may be a misnomer, however he's the only Republican of national prominence I can think of who has committed to not voting or endorsing him.

Everybody else Trump insulted eventually caved and got on their knees for Trump.

And don't get me wrong, not endorsing/planning to vote for someone who has insulted and threatened your safety is literally the least he could do, however every other Republican makes it seem like some Herculean feat.

divot1338 posted...
Liz Cheney is the only Republican who made an actual stand on principle with something actually on the line. I dont agree with her on anything but on Trump we do.

Adam Kizinger as well, he still hasn't stopped talking shit about Trump, however my statement was more about former Republican candidates or people who made big statements about how Trump is a threat to democracy and should never get back in, ultimately to flip on that and say actually I'm voting for/endorsing Trump.

2 recent examples are Sununu of New Hampshire and Bill Barr. For months they talked a good game and ultimately kissed the ring. Pence, at the least, has not become one of them. It's the one decent thing I can say about that monster.

EPR-radar posted...
LOL no. It's just that Mike Pence is a Republican of above-average intelligence, and therefore can remember that Trump literally tried to get him murdered by a mob on January 6.

Self interest is not moral fortitude.

Trump also almost got a ton of Republican reps killed and they still suck him off. I forget who, but there's that dude who said they're just tourists and we have a picture of him freaking out and hiding from these "tourists".

Recently Christ Sununu and Bill Barr, after spending months talking about how Trump is an existential threat to this nation and its democracy, how he should never get back in, are now saying they plan to vote for and support him. Haley is the most recent. On this front Pence as recent as a few weeks ago says he refuses to do either for Trump. It would be far easier to cave like every other Republican and kiss Trump's ass as that's the Republican way. He's at least not done that.

If a cake's purpose is to be for my birthday, and I don't besmirch the portion which has my name, is the cake not still fulfilling its purpose even if it's not full? It's still my birthday cake, it's just not whole. The expression doesn't discuss portioning, so I don't see why it has to be a complete cake in order to still count as a cake. Leftovers of the cake are still the same cake with the same intent and purpose for existing, there's just less of it because it's in my stomach.

And yet I have both still eaten said cake, know its flavor and supple texture, while also having it chilling in my fridge for an unspecified later date (it's never coming).

In fact, I even saved the portion that fully says my name, so "the cake" is still fulfilling its purpose for what it was created for in the first place.

Oh yeah, how could you care less? Do you need to be paid to care less?

Obviously it's couldn't care less.

Also when atheists/anti-theists still use religious terminology that denotes any deity, e.g. "god damnit", "holy shit", "Jesus Christ!", "Oh my god". It just goes to show how strongly ingrained Judeo-Christianity is within even the very basic English we all learn growing up just by existing and hearing others use it. I myself only don't use that terminology because as a child I wanted to intentionally work on "thou shalt not use the Lord's name in vain", so my vocabulary intentionally developed without it. I do still use "damn" and "hell", though.

The Google definitions I've found don't match up with how I've seen it used here. When posters here use it it seems to be some combination of A) They still support Biden B) They say Biden should be voted for because the alternative of Trump winning is far worse and will bring about the actual destruction of the nation as we know it and C) vote blue no matter who

Basically they're trying to claim that Biden has some sort of Trump-equivalent level of cultism due to those reasons.

Just ask CountCorvinius or whatever, that joke loves calling anyone under the sun blue maga

Sounds like a law that directly clashes with other laws.

That may be, however it's a 100+ year law still on the books and Republicans certainly aren't going to give a shit when they enforce it to achieve their Christo-fascist goal (Anthony Comstock was also a Christo-fascist, dude was seriously crazy from his religious beliefs and wanted to force everybody else to live by them. He pretty much created sting operations by posing as someone who wanted to buy pornography and then had police who were close by come in to arrest the seller. He'd also try to preach to his fellow Union soldiers during the war and get super butthurt mad cause so many soldiers would pass around porno mags/books. It's considered the main reason he wanted to go on this anti-lascivious crusade).

Again, I'm just putting myself in the shoes of a politician or financier who is interested in keeping American citizens down to secure power and money. Going off that, wouldn't it make sense to try to appeal to as many voting demographics as possible so there's an even higher chance of "success"? As far as the GOP goes we've already been seeing diminishing returns by them trying too hard to appeal to the MAGA crowd, only for a lot of Republican politicians to be accused of being "RINOs".

They don't care about appealing to voters that aren't their base because they plan on ending elections when they get back in.

https://www.npr.org/2024/04/10/1243802678/abortion-comstock-act#:~:text=

The Comstock Act (linked here and here at the Legal Information Institute) is an 1873 anti-obscenity law, named after anti-vice crusader Anthony Comstock. The law, which is still on the books, calls for banning the mailing or shipping of "every obscene, lewd, lascivious, indecent, filthy or vile article, matter, thing, device, or substance." In addition, it specifically outlaws mailing "every article or thing designed, adapted, or intended for producing abortion."

The intent of the law was not expressly about abortion, according to Mary Ziegler, law professor at the University of California, Davis. Instead, it was about what Comstock and his contemporaries called "sexual purity."

"The fear was that if people knew about abortion and contraception, which was also outlawed originally, that they would have sex they shouldn't have, just as if they, you know, looked at pornography," Ziegler said.

Of course, abortion pills as well as many things that might be considered"obscene," "lewd" and so on are currently sent through the mail. That's because the legal interpretation of the Comstock Act was narrowed repeatedly over the years.

The law's abortion provisions were rendered moot by Roe v. Wade in 1973. But with the Supreme Court overturning Roe in 2022, opponents of abortion rights started viewing Comstock as a way to restrict abortion, without the need for Congress or the courts to do anything.

In particular, that policy is promoted by "Project 2025."

"A straightforward interpretation of the statute is that it prohibits all interstate shipment or sale of abortion drugs and devices, regardless of whether state law allows abortion," Craddock says.

More in the link, including discussion of Project 2025. The article is from April, however I feel like not a lot of people know that this is their strategy for having a national abortion ban without legislating one, as the Comstock Act is still officially on the books.

"paid"

The lawyers for these cases are getting paid because he's using other people's money.

It's why the RNC only had 10m on hand when McDaniel got kicked out, because the money kept being funneled to Trump's legal fees.

And now his daughter in law is co-chair of the RNC and has stated their primary purpose is to support Trump.

It's really fucking over state GOP parties and honestly it's going to pay off (for Dems) in the election.

Male bears kill cubs for this reason too. Animals, this includes us, do some fucked up shit.

But unlike bears, dolphins are the only species other than us who have sex for fun, meaning unlike a bear which may do it because it's mating season and instincts are driving it to reproduce, dolphins will kill infants just cause they're horny and wanna nut.

I wonder why it's a more recent thing, in that case. There were plenty of games from 15 years ago that today would be classified as "woke".

Because right-wingers come up with new euphemisms for racist & bigoted terms and woke was the current flavor until DEI came along, which they're trying to make it.

"Stay woke" is actually a term whose first usage is seen in 1923 and became popular in the 1960s when the black populace would tell each other to "stay woke" when going through the South due to its racist and murderous tendencies towards them.

Right-wingers appropriated the term to complain about black people being in movies, games, positions of power, jobs, etc. and it eventually spread to include women and the LGBTQ community. When they talk about "woke policies doing x" they're saying "it's the reason those people are here/being represented".

It's just a way for them to be bigoted without dropping n or f bombs.
