The only way to save the contests(if it can be done)is to remove Link.Now that leaves Cloud,Mario,Snake,Samus,Sephiroth.BUT all these characters are really close in strength so the matches can be made awesome.I mean Cloud/Mario?Cloud/Snake?/Cloud/Samus?Sephiroth/Mario?Sephiroth/Snake?Sephiroth/Samus?Samus/Snake?Mario/Snake?I am sure that all these are really close.But if you put Link he beats all of them.So where is the fun?

Just don't put Link between those characters. It would be like getting mad at the trainers for stopping Ryu/Ken vs. Samus/Ridley from happening.

At least Ash was actually on Gary’s level the entire time they knew each other.

I don't think we can say, the first time they battled was before Johto started and while Gary lost earlier in the Kanto tournament than Ash you could say that it was unlucky bracket placement, kind of like those CotD that loses to Ash in the first round despite taking him to his last pokemon yet Ash reaches the quarterfinals.

Then again according to Gary before their Johto league match the closest he came to losing to Ash was when they tied with the pokeball though that was Gary's opinion so whether that's true can be debated.

Analysis

The contest is almost over, but that didn’t stop our four semi-finalists to blow past 60% against their competition. Mario and Bowser were ever so close to getting a solid doubling while the trainers showed us that Ryu and Ken would have had a close match against Samus and Ridley, can’t blame bracket positioning because very few thought the trainers would be this dominant in their wins.

The trainers needed a big win last round to show that they were capable of handling Mario and Bowser and for the most part they failed to impress in that aspect. While a bandwagon could form I just don’t see it happening. The feeling is not there which is not surprising as the contest as a whole has never reached the magic that the contests of past have given us.

Based on Mario and Bowser’s performances if I didn’t know any better I would be ranking them up there with Link and Cloud. Of course they are likely the third strongest pair of the contest, but they would have to produce something special here and hope their opponent is Cloud/Sephiroth in order to look like they can compete with them.

I don't think Cloud/Sephiroth's capability to SFF is going to matter against Link/Ganondorf. Besides they are doing better against Squall than Cloud did in 2k8. You can laugh at four-ways all you want, but at the same time seven year old stats are probably just as bad.

People should be comparing non-SFF performances like Alucard/Dracula vs. Kratos/Zeus

Analysis

Squall must be getting tired of running into the same opponent many times. Despite being in every contest he has only lost to someone other than Cloud and Solid Snake twice. Either way Cloud and Sephiroth are going to get some nice SFF in this match and with that said this will be the final match between the clash between Link and Cloud.

I feel people are putting too much emphasis on Cloud and Sephiroth’s ability to SFF in terms of their strength. While it would be nice to watch the pair destroy Squall and Seifer it also would not be the end of the world should Squall and Seifer hold up better than our expectations. All massive SFF can tell us is that Cloud and Sephiroth are quite strong, but we already know that. Of course should Squall and Seifer over perform to the point where not only there is no SFF, but they are doing better than what we expect indirectly then it would be time to worry.

In the past we’ve seen Cloud pull a near tripling on Squall, but with Sephiroth and Seifer added to the poll I feel that Cloud and Sephiroth will perform even better. With all of this SFF the x-stats will probably be as useless as the ones in four-ways should we even need them for a second rivalry rumble.

It's a factor in that it decides the starting trends, but I don't think I've seen people use it as a long term factor because as you said were dealing with a few hundred votes in a poll that will eventually get tens of thousands of votes.

If you want 2010 results look at 63% on Big Boss at night which is essentially what Mario has been getting on him since 2007. Snake and Samus got 67% on Fox and Sub-Zero.
