It seems like a fair amount of these reviews are talking about Pixar, and barely scratching the surface of the film itself. It's like the "fall" of Judd Apatow all over again, man.

Though coincidentally I didn't plan on seeing Brave, I'm going Lincoln Vamp Huntin.
I gotta say, Lincoln's my top priority too. Definitely getting some buds together for that.

NSMBWii love is always a good thing! The level designs in that were tops. Loved the multiplayer too.

Also, I don't know how Bosco can say that Mario World plays exactly like Mario 3.
I'd have to wonder how recently he played either game if he thinks that.
Played Mario 3 pretty recently; been a while since World, I will say. Admittedly, the physics in World are pretty different; but the rest of the game didn't bring much new to the table, I don't think. And most of its new features either hurt the challenge level (I.E. being able to have a spare item during the stage) or weren't really executed properly (the dragon coins were way too easy to get).

Even if you prefer SMB1's style and engine, how can you possibly like it better than Lost Levels? LL has it beat in every possible way there is.
I like LL more than most, but I still wouldn't put it in the upper echelon of Mario titles. I should play more of it, though - I never had the chance to play too much of it, so I never got to see the (supposedly insane) later levels.
As for Contra 4, that game is god-tier. Some of the most fun I've ever had as a gamer.

I honestly never understood the attraction of Disneyland to anyone past 10 unless you have children, but then again my knowledge of it is that it's a gigantic crowd with people in mascot costumes that you take pictures with and that's it.
I've never actually been to Disneyland/World, but even among big theme park buffs, they're considered some of the best parks out there. Especially Tokyo Disneyland, which is regarded as the absolute cream of the crop.
For my money, though, I doubt they top Holiday World or Busch Gardens. AWW YEAH
-- Hey, you ever coming back? You kidding? I am Queens Boulevard.
Good lord, that's dire. I love theme parks to death, but I could never justify that.
Depending on how many days you go, Universal Studios is either much better or a hell of a lot worse. If you go 4 days, it's about $40 per day - certainly not bad by any means, especially since you get access to both Universal parks. If you go for 3, it's about $51. But if you only want 1 day? $123.
$123. For one person. Yikes.

I don't think its controls pale in comparison to the rest of the series either! Remember those wonky motion-control segments from Galaxy? And I really can't see much difference between SMB1's physics/controls and SMB3's.
-- Hey, you ever coming back? You kidding? I am Queens Boulevard.
What? I don't even think of SMB1 as a good game. It's almost unplayable. No vertical scrolling, no backward scrolling, really boring repetitive levels, thoughtlessly designed levels, way too difficult levels, control is effed, almost no powerups, no map, no nothing. Yuck. SMB1 is like a proof of concept, waiting for someone to make a real game out of sidescroller platforming.
Whoa whoa, WHAT? Repetitive and thoughtlessly designed levels? Man, they keep me on my toes every time I play 'em. I think the challenge level is perfect too - especially compared to games like Sunshine, that have wildly unbalanced difficulty (some of those Sprites required the patience of Mother Teresa to get).
Not sure why some people dislike the controls so much, either. Compared to many other games of the era, I think they're pretty dang fluid - just compare its controls to Ice Climber's.

But it didn't push the hardware like SMB3 did. I mean, I play SMB3, and I'm just like... "how the hell did they pull this off on an NES?"
a late-NES game pushes its system more than a launch SNES game does, imagine that!
Yeah, but it wasn't even one of the most visually impressive launch titles! F-Zero definitely won that battle. I've always loved PilotWings's visual style too.

From: TheCodeisBosco | #010 Y'all World fans are crazy! It's pretty much a carbon copy of SMB3, IMO... but SMB3 won handily in terms of difficulty, power-ups, and especially level design. World had the better soundtrack and... Yoshi, but that was it. It just felt kind of complacent and rushed, I think.
SMB3 and SM64 are good picks for sure, but I don't know. I just don't think they come all that close to SMB1. That's just platforming bliss in my book. No way, man. World's level design and especially aesthetics were ace, just ace. It never felt remotely rushed to me and things like switch palaces and Star Road make the game much more enjoyable to me on replays.
I can't deny that Star Road was really neat, and I do like its visual style too! But it didn't push the hardware like SMB3 did. I mean, I play SMB3, and I'm just like... "how the hell did they pull this off on an NES?" It also has that really neat "stage show/play" motif.
As for the level designs, they weren't too memorable or exciting to me. Tubular was awesome, but that's the only level I distinctly remember - everything else just blended together. Whereas SMB3 has those airships, and the giant world, and even some good underwater levels!

To me, the worst things going against Gurdurr are:
1) He has to evolve via trade; and 2) He's awfully similar to Machoke.
But all in all, I actually think he's an alright Pokemon. He's my buddy in NU - probably one of the most consistently helpful Pokemon in that tier - and his design and name crack me up. He is the weakest in the line, though; Timburr's a little cooler, and Conkeldurr is honestly a great Pokemon. He also makes for a terrific Pierce Hawthorne.
-- Hey, you ever coming back? You kidding? I am Queens Boulevard.
I always try to rate Pokemon as honestly as I can, but man, I was tempted to give Gurdurr a 10 just to balance things out. Poor guy doesn't deserve so much hate.

-Though GOB and Michael managed to do really well in the sitcom contest, BTVEE didn't go so well for AD. Pier Pressure was the only episode to make it to R2, and it fell here.

Sorry Day 23 was delayed, folks. This weekend was a busy one for me, but it's good to be back! It's also a good day to be a Seinfeld fan, because "The Contest" and "The Opposite" both managed to win their respective matches in Day 22. I gotta say, I'm surprised! I never realized that people liked "The Opposite" so much.

G4's list, honestly, is one of the better ones I've seen.
-Asteroids is #4 -There's a ****ton of arcade love -Portal 1 is ranked high; Portal 2 isn't on the list -Super Mario Bros. is #1 -Unlike most lists, this one didn't sell Pokemon RBY short -Contra, Pitfall, and even ****ing OUTRUN are included!
And so on. It definitely needs more Sega love, and there are some embarrassing picks (Words With Friends? Wii Sports? >_>). But all in all, I do like it quite a bit.
GamesRadar's list is actually decent too, and there's some nice surprises. I always love when a list gives SMB3 props over SMW, and seeing titles like Grim Fandango, EarthBound and Left 4 Dead 2 so high is great. But the list as a whole is way too modern-skewing - Starcraft II is in the top twenty, for crying out loud - and their taste in portable gaming is highly questionable. Pokemon B/W, Advance Wars, and especially Donkey Kong '94 shouldn't be anywhere near a top 100 list. And of course, this list needs more Sega love too!
