The only one they offered was Assault Rifle, much to my disappointment.

This reminds me of something I loved about ME1, the way the achievements actually tied back into the gameplay and gave you bonuses.

More games need to do that.

James Bond 007: NightFire spoilers (just to be sure)

17. Killing in Style

The 007 series' multiplayer component encourages players to choose their favorite Bond character because the characters lack individual stats. NightFire did something a little different that gave players an advantage of using a particular character without including stats. Oddjob's bowler hat was now a weapon and only exclusive to him.

Oddjob's size gives any player that uses him a little bit of an advantage, but that pales in comparison to what his hat brings to the table. It is essentially like having a Golden Gun on you that you can use every minute or so. I am not positive, but I believe that being hit by Oddjob's hat will kill you no matter what, even if you have a full set of body armor on.

The fact that it can be used very often in a match and that it will kill its target every time it hits it makes this one of the most hilariously broken weapons in a video game.

Much to the chagrin of my friends though, it never got old. Successfully killing someone from 100 yards or more away is as satisfying as always, even if it's mostly because I just killed someone with a goddamn hat!

external image
(I would rather die from a steel hat than Jaws' steel teeth any day)

Hahaha, I loved Oddjob's hat in Nightfire.

My friend and I used to have snipers only duels on the Ravine stage. If you set up respawns to spawn far away from your foe the game would almost always spawn you inside the building on the opposite side of the ravine from the other guy. Then you'd have to figure out how to get out of the building without him shooting you since he knows where you are. It was incredibly fun.

Anyway, one time he had me pinned down on a roof. If I stood up to shoot him he'd nail me. At that point I hadn't used the hat much, but I picked it anyway. Lined up with where he was, aimed upwards, and tossed it.

About three seconds later you see the hat come flying in on his screen, right into his scope.

After that I became very proficient at sniping with the hat.

It was awesome. Some of the most fun I've ever had playing a game.

Lets do this.

Speaking of which, I was wondering about that one achievement for "bringing a majority of the galaxy at war assets to the final conflict." I thought I did that during my first playthrough but never got the achievement. Is multiplayer required for that one as well, or do I just need to do pretty much everything?

IIRC that achievement requires you to have at least 4000 resources available when you hit the Illusive Man's base. Without multiplayer that means you need 8000 total. I had about 7000 so I just did two or three multiplayer matches to get it above 4000.

Once you can hack them, though, they become amazing tools. One of my favorite things to do with my Infiltrator was to hack a turret right after the Engineer set it, then watch it unload on him before he could get away.

It's only abilities that actually electrocute, burn, or freeze the enemy. And the effect has to trigger. So for shock they actually have to do the stun animation and have the electricity crackling over them.

I don't think Sabotage can do the stun effect.

Defense Matrix does indeed give Sentry Turret and Combat Drone a damage boost. It actually boosts all of the Engineer's skills. Incinerate and Overload benefit from it the most, I'd say.

I believe it would. I can double check in a bit when my girlfriend goes on a mission.

As long as your weapons put your cooldowns at 200% then the cooldown reduction from DM is minor. It's a 60% reduction normally and you can drop it to 30% at the end of the skill tree.

Get the Paladin and Locust and dominate.

Starting new ME3 game now. Man... Engineer has Combat Drone and Defense Turret, AND the possibility to use Decoy. That's a lot of distractions.

I think I'll go with Warp Ammo though, since otherwise I won't have an ammo power. And there's already too many options with only three quick-use buttons.

Defense Matrix is a great bonus power for an Engineer. At least 15% damage reduction depending on how you build it, a 25% bonus to all tech damage when it's active, and the ability to purge it and restore 70-100% of your shields.

The delay it causes on cooldowns is less than a third of a second once you max it and get the 30% reduction of the slowdown. It's pretty amazing.

Warp Ammo would be good, too. Probably my second choice for an Engineer.

After thinking about the game when I finished it again today, there's a couple of little things I've noticed that I don't like or wish had been done differently.

The biggest thing was Kal'Reegar dying offscreen. Lame. If he's gonna go out fighting I want to at least see it. I'd love a "Kal'Reegar's Last Stand" DLC that puts you in his shoes, defending the relay or whatever it was. Make his class and skill set a mixture of Soldier and Engineer since he's a quarian marine. It won't happen, but I can dream.

Everything else is minor and doesn't really detract from my enjoyment of the game. Even the Kal'Reegar thing isn't too big a deal, but the dude deserved better.

I'm trying to decide which class to use when I start ME1. I'm leaning Adept or Engineer, but Soldier is a possibility. And I'm playing on Hardcore since I never got around to it.

I'm considering trying to get the rest of the achievements in the game so I've got all the achievements in the series, but that'll take at least two more playthroughs. Stupid ally achievements.

Insanity done and all achievements unlocked.

Time to take a break and try to finish something from my backlog before I start up ME1 for a full series playthrough. Might try to finish Uncharted 2, I started it like a week ago and haven't touched it since.

One really minor annoyance about ME3 for me is that you can't change the color of your Tech Armor. It's a small detail I would've loved to see. My Sentinel wears orange and red so the orange TA doesn't look bad, but it'd be cool if you could make it match your armor colors.

For me it got a lot easier once I hit about LV40 and had a decent selection of powers. The end segment is timed as Leonhart says. You do have to kill the wave of brutes and the harvester, but the banshee wave after that is definitely timed.

On the final mission for my Insanity run.

Defense Matrix + Tech Armor has become one of my favorite ability combinations. The combined defense boost and the 100% shield recharge from purging DM makes you even more of a unkillable murder machine than in ME2.

Your cooldowns do suffer a bit from having both up, but they're under 3 seconds each for me and I usually didn't take the recharge boosts on the actual skills.

I used SMGs and Heavy Pistols. The Locust and the Paladin are a great combo. I imagine this build could do a lot of damage with a Shotgun as well. Might try it in a NG+.

Taking Vega with me on all missions has given me the opportunity to see most of his nicknames for the crew.

Shep is Loco/Lola,
Garrus is Scars.
Tali is Sparks.
Cortez is Esteban.
Javik is Buggy.
Liara is Doc.

I haven't seen him refer to Ashley, Kaidan, or *spoiler non DLC squaddie* by a nickname. I don't have Ashley in this game, though. I think he may have called her Ash like everyone else does in my other game.

Javik and Liara cracked me up. And you'd likely only see him use the nicknames if you brought them together on certain missions.

And yeah, I liked him before, but using him in every mission has had him grow on me. Easily one of the best human squadmates.

At one point I had to tell one of my teammates to shut down an AA gun, and I had him do it. His response?

"I'm not so good with tech but I'll pull some wires out, see what stops working."

Then to top it off he actually walked over to the console on the gun and started kicking it, with Shepard and Kaidan in the background shaking their heads.

Totally unexpected.

anyone know the point of promoting? Does it reset your level (don't feel like resetting level / want to unlock more stuff to but N7 level won't raise or whatever etc)

It resets your level for that particular class and puts them into the main game as a war asset. 75 points for each promotion. It's really not worth it, although it is a way to force a respec without having to get a respec card from the packs.

Object Rho is probably one of the biggest sources of indoctrination for Shepard, considering you spend two days unconscious in the same facility it's in.

Watch, everything that happened in Arrival was just a setup for the Reapers to establish a backdoor into Shepard's head...just in case.

That theory is definitely fun. The only problem with it is really the VIs inability to detect traces of it in Shepard on Thessia.

The thing is, we haven't seen any proof that the VI could detect simple traces of indoctrination. Kai Leng was in deep and had willingly had Reaper tech installed, so of course it could detect him.

Then again it's entirely possible this is all simply plotholes Bioware missed and there's nothing more to it. We'll find out in April, I guess.

Refund guy is on the Citadel outside of the warehouse you go into to talk to "Fade" for Garrus' loyalty, IIRC. Right next to the Tupari machine. His is funny simply because it's a saga across all three games.

There's the turian right at C-Sec customs that keeps calling the customs chick racist. And a whole lot more that I can't think of because I mostly remember the ME3 ones right now.

ME3 is cool because the conversations have multiple parts and you can hear something new as long as you check the people out everytime you come back. Of course you could just go to a different floor and come back repeatedly to hear the full convo, too, but that's no fun.

ME3

1. PTSD asari in the hospital
2. Teenage human and C-Sec turian at the docks
3. Random French dude and batarian at the docks

ME2 had more funny stuff, ME3 had more heartwarming and sad stuff.

I did not know that Mark Meer voiced all of the Hanar in ME3, even Blasto. That makes the Big Stupid Jellyfish bit even funnier for me. And he voiced Biotic God Niftu Cal? Oh man.

Seriously? No way. That's pretty awesome. And people say the guy has no range.

Finished Tuchanka on my Insanity run. The coming events should be interesting for this FemShep given who she romanced.

I'll just send him into the vents then. He volunteers for it anyway, might as well let him meet his doom there.

That part always bothered me.

"Practically a suicide mission. I volunteer."

And the way he says it makes it sound like he's trying to be all badass like Shepard.
