I feel it's more that, once Battler arrives at the truth, he decides it unimportant because 'without love it cannot be seen' or whatever. His story written for Beatrice is what he wants to remember, and Battler... well, he's incredibly selfish. He isn't a character representing the theme of truth; he's flawed and swayed by his emotions and attraction to Beato. Plus, the first four episodes were him not realizing the Shannon/Kanon/Beato "how do I hold all these personalities" pile-up and treating it as traditional mystery, as opposed to Yasu's Personality Disorder Island 1986. Ends up being a very personal story to a lover he 'killed himself' (with the Hachijo personality) for.

Plus the last time he tried traditional explanation Erika locked him in a room for thousands of years where he mutilated himself. Odds are that's a pretty good point of reference for what Ange could go through. Different scenario, of course, with a logic error compared to definite truth, but altogether hopeless.

I feel it's more of a dynamic between Red and Blue, with Red representing a terrible scenario and Blue representing all forms of hope. Maybe I'm corny like that, I enjoyed Episode 8 outside of the 'yeah well Red Truth isn't definite anymore if you're deluded enough', but that kind of goes to the theme of 'truth is what you make of it and can be twisted by the person expositing it', as was already proven when it was introduced ( "You are incompetent!" ). But now I just feel like I'm rambling and trying to think of exactly why I liked Battler in Ep. 8. Because I really did, it's just difficult to explain exactly how.

I wrote a piece on this. Well, mostly it was advertising the game, but I feel the title's done something very unique: it creates discomfort from the onset, attacks the player, and makes them slowly grow more comfortable. It's really a fascinating product.

Well, whoever you social link with directly affects which personae you use, which determines outcomes in story events, conversations, and options later in the game. It's very much a role-playing game where you play the role of the main character, as opposed to 'you're Cloud. Do Cloud stuff while being awesome'. Looking at it from the outside is just a bit underwhelming compared to playing it.

And eh, generally you average about... 40-ish turn-based battles per dungeon? Really there isn't much of a focus on grinding and the long stretches of RPG gameplay where nothing is going on but turn-based RPG-ing will last about two hours at the most.

It's very much a "you get what you put in" type of game. The endurance run is fine, but it's very much a character and choice-driven game insofar as the plot goes, and watching Vinny and Jeff choose who to interact with rather than interacting yourself is a bit underwhelming. It's fine to watch it, but it's not as coherent a narrative when you're not playing as, say, a Final Fantasy game would be, or Xenogears or something.

Super Dimentio, but he's ugly so it doesn't matter.

Otherwise, depends on the character's mood. Bowser with Star Rod could technically beat anything by wishing it away, but Bowser is an idiot. Majora has a ton of undefined powers, but Majora is crazy so the odds of it using said powers are small. The final boss of Fire Emblem 10 has the same Ganondorf stipulation AND doesn't suck at killing things outside of that, but it's apathetic at best about giving an effort.

So yeah probably Giygas because he's literally too stupid to screw around.

I love following them and then laughing as pros make mistakes that I say to myself I would never do, then fail to do the dragon punch motion half of the time.

Actually playing them is less fun, outside of SSB's forgiving learning curve, but watching them is a blast.

Then get MGS HD.

It'll just last a lot longer and, honestly, I find that the PS3 controller really helps Peace Walker not feel like crap to control. That could just be bias against the PSP's stick on my part, but eh.

MGS3 is just a bigger difference from MGS2 than Ico is from SotC; you'll probably get more from the experience of MGS3 unless you really, really loved SotC.

Got Nastasha and Deepthroat mixed up, but otherwise had them all memorized. I remember forcing myself to memorize Otacon's on my first playthrough, since I was like "he raids the pantry? So, like, free rations? Sweet". Others were just recurring or the Meryl frequency, which I just remember was 140.lownumber

Eh, LotR always feels like a 'stronger than the sum of its parts' type of deal. At its peak, it's certainly a juggernaut, but as time has gone on, I just don't feel people having the same connection to it that they had years ago. Lovely job with the whole 'winning' thing.

Not a big fan of the choices, feel there could be stronger Pokemon (Mew would be fun... speaking of, Mew Vs Mewtwo would've been a rivalry that might've made this thing interesting for, like, one match), don't feel LotR will get a massive amount of strength here, but it's fun to see LoL get some respect. I don't see it being all that strong, but it's a fun nom.

At the time of its release, not at all. There was an unbelievable amount of crappy and 'meh' 3D platformers (and Rayman 2, bless its heart) released at the time to ride off of Mario 64's coattails. Since Banjo was really the only thing worthwhile since its launch (again, with the exception of Rayman 2) and the N64 was... well it had Mario 64 so you probably thought of it before Crash and Spyro, DK64 being a 3D platformer with some level of quality and thought in its design was very nice.

I'll always regard DK64 as kind of the FFVIII to the N64's 3D platformers (with Mario being FFVII and... erm... I guess both Banjo games being FFIX) in that it plays with the mechanics of a 3D platformer more than any of the other games did and really experiments. There are a ton of mini-games, a huge amount of variation in the character playstyles, and just a lot to do and play around with. It's a lot of good ideas with some great intentions, and that works for some people and alienates others. It lacks polish in a lot of areas, especially graphically when compared to Banjo-Kazooie and that damn rocketbarrel power-up, but it did a lot of things right for all it got wrong. It's just the amount it presented players with was a bit overwhelming, and players could pretty much go 'yeah well I can do this in Mario/Banjo/Crash/Spyro without this other mechanic I don't like. DK64 sux'.

That and petty DKC fans. Aw poor babies where are Dixie and Squitter? They ruined Squawks? Nothing like DKC? Poor things.

Y'know, I've been down this whole contest. Normally I pretend that I'm someone else who I happen to agree with and try to project my thoughts and feelings through them, but even then, I've been just unable to really get excited for this contest.

Yoblazer - can I call you yo? Or perhaps some kind of title like 'world warrior of truth yo' or something far more witty - you have given me life. Through your absolute deconstruction, your brutal murdering, your meticulous and thorough disemboweling of Pokemon and my neckbeard, I feel renewed life, almost invigorated by just the sheer level of emotion you have unleashed with such simple, cutting words. You have destroyed not only my expectations, not only my wishes for this contest, but you have destroyed a part of my soul itself. And with part of it destroyed, I am completely unable to stop and restrain myself for praising your name on high for just how wrong you are. About Pokemon, I mean, the fanbase really deserved it, but 'Why did my poor GROWLITHE have to die?' is not a pansy line. That's, like, deep, man, and I hate the Pokemon fanbase for ignoring it. BUT, nonetheless, you have me waiting with bated breath just to see what the Trainers will do next, win or lose, to rile you into a frenzy. That is the true joy I will take from this contest, and I thank you for it.

That said, lovely job as always, adore it when you pick stirring guests that really get at least some level of disagreement going. I can't imagine how you stay the straight man to all that insanity, NG, but well done, seriously.

Also Lloyd > God of War? Sounds pretty similar to something from 2009, eh? Eeehhhh? But yeah, Kratos has clearly fallen off and I can honestly see him back at his "40% on non-rivalry Alucard" levels.
