If Crosby isn't on the ice, Jagr provides some incentive for people to buy tickets and merch, as well as get some ratings. I imagine he's fine enough to play for the team.

It did happen but I played a few rounds of the tutorial while listening to GoT. I felt like I was only useful with the soldier and I was still figuring out the maps. It's slightly daunting to start from scratch when the game is already so mature.

Konerko is having the better year, should be interesting to see how the handle first basemen. Tex slots in around where A Rod and Youk are, though the HR total will probably help him out.

Maybe ditch Hardy because he missed a month and add Tex.

Also I think it'd be neat if they could squeeze in 3 Philly pitchers in a row, like how in the NBA they'll do things like put 4 Pistons or 4 Celtics on the floor at the same time. Doubt it'll happen though, I don't think you follow Halladay with another Philly.

3B is also thin, A-Rod being the only player legit enough to be an all-star at that position.

That's more what I disagree with, they both perform about the same level. It's fair to pick one over the other for whatever reasons you decide.

I'm not trying to prove anything. I don't really care about any of these guys or the sport and I wouldn't think less of the sport if they did all dope up. I pay attention to tennis a little bit and it's a nice sport and all but I wasn't aware of a big doping scandal with Nadal.

Of course they do. He's either escaped being caught, or it's covered up because Nadal being exposed as a drug cheat would do massive damage to the sport as a whole.

So no chance that he's clean?

the first gaming purchase I personally made was the NES with Mario/Duck Hunt. I was grounded for a very long time so I couldn't spend money. My mother would match whatever I put in the bank, so I put my $1/week allowance into the bank for 6 months, and the other half came from Christmas/birthday. My mom said I couldn't take it out because the point was to get me to save money, but my dad overruled because he wanted to play Duck Hunt.

Valkyria Chronicles is getting good. And its battles are getting longer. Man, it's like a rich chocolate cake. I'm good after one fight/slice per night.

I was pretty much just running skirmish 2 (it takes very little time, like 5 moves or so) a few times for the EXP and then a mission every day, pretty much, yeah.

I love Simmonds and will be sad to see him go, but this is a steal. Philly is literally throwing in the towel. They'll be decent enough still with Giroux and JVR and all, but man, the roster they had right now was a Top 5 cup-contender and would have been for the next 5 years or so.

Did they need to make moves to sign Bryz?

You asked about UC characters and story, I wanted to answer a bit more but didn't have the opportunity.

UC1 and UC2 spoilers ahoy

Nathan Drake is a watered down mix of Indiana Jones and Han Solo. When he has a sense of right and wrong about something, he falls into it easily and intensely. But he's also a shallow jerk to everyone, and we forgive him these trespasses because he's attractive and talented. He admittedly doesn't think very far ahead, and his plan to double cross Flynn backfires, yet his shallow nature permits him to begin thinking he is the victim in all of this, and continue to hold onto that notion. While this plays into the "among thieves" line, it still shows Drake as a narrow-visioned guy who rarely thinks beyond what is immediate to him.

In UC1, Drake is just an action hero with some funny little comments, a drive to follow his ancestor's path, and hey let's save the world too. It's odd that he is so intent on saving the world when he's really more of a scavenger, but if you head off into the sunset with the girl, the gold and having saved the world? there's really no characterization you need to worry about at all. So coming out of that game, Drake is fairly meaningless. He's not even a mascot.

UC2 Drake is a bit more puzzling. He ditches Elena and has moved onto Chloe. Elena and Chloe even joke about it being a "last year's model" situation. Drake spends much of the game risking everything to bail out Chloe, who has double crossed him. Elena gets randomly pulled into it, and at the end... Drake loves Elena. Drake's own actions suggest entirely the opposite, and without any real means of exploring his intentions or struggles (we don't even manage generic afraid-to-get-close tropes), he's actually interested in Elena. It seems to be meant for the gameplayer and not the character. in this sense Drake is a perfectly realized juvenile male romance novel character, but as an actual character, poorly realized. If we just want a guy who just jumps and shoots and looks good enough to get whatever he wants, that's Drake. We're just lucky that what he wants is treasure, and by wanting that treasure, he stumbles into very specific opportunities to save the world. And we're lucky that he wants to save the world, though it doesn't really fit any moral set we've uncovered through the first two games.

The stories are fun. They're action movies. The villains are terrible. The village in UC2 actually adds a bit of texture to the series but they just blow it up with a tank. When it gets to the end of the village, you blow the tank up.

There's certainly no reason to be invested in the characters, though they make for a fun ride. And Elena isn't terrible.

I will say that UC2 does a great job of changing the action up. Plenty of action sequences are designed around you having various vantage points, or using stealth, etc. It's not just generic/poor cover shooting like UC1, though that does show up a little bit because the cover shooting mechanics are still probably third rate. But, let's consider the part where Elena and Drake are up in the mountains and they need to open a gate, so Drake climbs up and around and is on top of a gutted building that has enemies all the way down. Right here we can shoot our way through, stealth our way through, or stealth our way to a point where we have a combat advantage. That's terrific. It's probably a better realized sense of what stealth should be than anything in MGS aside from the Tanker.

I remember watching the Tejada play and having no clue what happened. Tejada was interfered with at third, but the ump didn't call it because Tejada gave up, threw his arms in the air and made a big production of it. How can you be interfered with if you weren't attempting to get to the next base, after all? just a crazy game in a crazy series.

And I'm not saying we need elite playerlists. My point is more that people are mired in early game trappings, and that don't really lead to good play or good habits. Too many early games, too much useless info for town, too much good info for scum, activity problems, content problems, etc.

We can also factor in all the killing power people like to put into games, and how that usually gets rid of the better town players early.

The top 3 problems I see are:

1. inactive/under-engaged players
2. players having yelling matches that go nowhere
3. lynches happen due to momentum
-3a. players lynch easy lynches, convincing themselves to vote for easy lynches
-3b. players spend too much time trying to convince scum why they are scum
