I was thinking that there would be multiple pages to navigate through to find a particular project (Projects -> User Contests -> User of the Year), but it's probably not even that big of a deal.

It would be better than having a giant list. Although, that is possible, too. It can be both ways. For example, User of the Year could be in both the Projects category and User Contests category. If you like big lists, you can go look for it in Projects. If you want to refine it, then go into User Contests.

Obviously Ulti from fr0q's comics should be on the logo

But then the Board 8 Wiki would be literally obsessed with Ulti!

Most people do not need two video cards, especially someone starting out with PC gaming. Even as someone who is into PC gaming, I thought I might get two video cards, but never did. You have the option of buying a motherboard with an extra slot for a video card if you're building it yourself. If you're buying it, you should be able to find out if it can support two of them.

though as I recall you need 2 video cards to run 2 monitors and that's also something I'd be interested in because of music...

This is false. You only need one video card to run two monitors. I'm not sure, but some high-end video cards can support more (some AMD high-end video cards can do 6, IIRC). Generally though, you can expect any video card to support two monitors at least. There will usually be two or more connectors for it, and all you need to do is plug in your monitors, and set it up in Windows. It takes just a few minutes to do.

Note that not many games use dual monitors, although AMD (maybe NVidia now too?) has the ability to make most games run on both screens. Although, doing that on two monitors is not recommended (from what I gather from people who've used it, it seems like an odd number of monitors work best, either 3 or 5 for multiscreen gaming because of monitor bezels).

oblivion is pretty solid too i guess. never could get much into it though. the whole enemies scale in level too thing was a bit of a downer.

Note that there are mods that can do all kinds of stuff. Plenty of people use mods to fix that issue, even!

As others have said, it is cheaper to do talk shows than soaps. It is also cheaper to do reality shows than other shows, and reality shows are also popular. That's why there are so many reality shows around, too.

Even if some people would do it anyway, I would imagine that it could get the websites in trouble. I'm also sure that sites like UStream would ban people for broadcasting games, just like how they ban people for broadcasting movies (assumption, but I would imagine they do).

One catch-all 'Projects' category might work, but I imagine it would get unwieldy with all the subcategories. Then again, having a mess of initial categories would probably be pretty difficult to standardize and find stuff in. So your idea probably works better! Where would Lists and Topic Series (like Contest Stats and Discussion) go though? I don't know if you could consider those projects or not.

I think most people would consider them projects. I personally do. Also, I'm not quite sure what you mean about it being unwieldy. Can you elaborate?

A gif would probably be more than a little distracting, yeah. I was thinking more along the lines of, say, Overclocked Remix's logos, which rotate randomly between a bunch of different video game characters each time you visit or refresh the page. But again I don't know how that would work with Wikia.

I know that a wiki's picture is set by having a picture with the name wiki.png. I don't think it would allow me to set multiple logos. Although, it is possible for someone particularly good with web design and wiki skills to put a logo there with a script or something, but then that could be an issue if Wikia has something against that.

Because there have been almost 1000 AoDs. If this problem existed, I'm half certain it would have manifested itself at this point.

That being said, in the history of AoD (from what I am aware of), people haven't been able to denominate two things.

Let me clarify something. I'm not trying to say I will or will not require explanations (if there's a demand for free denominations, I will do that), I just want to explain my position on it.

Also, I'm not sure if this is in place, but I feel like a time limit for noms has to be put into effect. We don't need things that are not going to get support on the list for weeks just sitting there.

This is definitely possible, because I do keep track of when something was last nominated in my database, starting from AoD 959. There are 29 nominations that were last nominated from before I began to keep track of when they were last nominated.

Eh, I think I'm just going to be done with AoD as a whole. It's gone downhill and has become too much work for something that's supposed to be so simple in concept.

I have the feeling that this is why Chronic might have retired from it, honestly. It's not exactly the easiest thing to run, you know!

Not liking a nom for any reason is an acceptable reason to denom it. If you want to denom more, give reasons for it, otherwise, I have the feeling that some people might overuse denominations when there may not be a good reason to do so.

I don't want a situation where certain noms are being targeted unfairly, when there may be nothing to do with quality. I've seen some of LMS' noms denommed with other people protesting about it, because they didn't think the nom was that bad. I wouldn't want LMS' noms to be denommed because he's LMS, or for a certain subject to be denommed because they're a certain subject. If it's legitimately bad, a repeat I missed, too similar to something else, etc., then I'll delete it.

I really don't see why we need to give an explanation denoming. We don't need to give an explanation on why our noms are good, why would we have to give an explanation why nominations are bad? There's no need. It's not like AoD's gonna die if you let us denom stuff.

One denomination would not require you to explain anything, unless it already had 5 nominations. The idea is that you can still denominate whatever you want for any reason, but if you want to do it twice in one topic, you should provide a small reason why. I'm not going to ask for an essay about it, so a short sentence would work if it's a decent reason.

Where it gets tricky is likely the amount of uncategorized contests: Disney Characters, VGMusic, MEFCC, etc. Maybe having subcategories there would work well? Just some ideas.

Those could be put in an "Other Projects" category. I am thinking all of the categories you mentioned would be subcategories of "Projects" or something similar.

I suggested this to lefty but I have absolutely no idea how plausible it would be... would it be possible to implement some sort of rotating, randomly selected logo? It would be cool to see something different among the match pic selection, for instance. That's probably ludicrously implausible, but again, just a suggestion. >_>

I don't think that is possible, but if it is a popular enough idea, I could ask Wikia to make sure. It might be possible to make a .gif image, but it will not be random, and might be distracting.

My view: Despite the Wii starting strong, unfortunately, the Wii "wins" this one. Disagree.

There is a lot of discussion about how AoD should be run, how nominations should be handled, etc. I don't really want to close the discussion in AoD 970, but I feel that I should do so, tally, and then continue the discussion here. That will make it easier to keep any discussion going about certain things.

The main issue right now is with nominations. LMS and Ulti are the main users that people are concerned with when it comes to nominations, and people are suggesting different things for handling nominations. If possible, I want to avoid singling out any user from their activities. For example, I do not want to limit User A to one nomination per day while everyone else has 3, and I don't want to force User B to bring in new nominations in order to vote for others. Instead, I would allow for everyone nominating to only have one nomination per day, or force them to nominate something new. It would resolve the issue without really targeting anyone in particular, and that way, other people can't do the same thing, either.

Here is what I am thinking for now:

1. Limit of one inequality nomination per user per topic. 3 nomination limit still stands.

2. Two denominations possible per user per topic, but only if the second one has an explanation. If it is a reasonable explanation (at my sole discretion), then I will count it as a denom. Something like "it is similar to something done before" would work if that is true, while "it is bad" or "that user nominated it" won't.

3. Mass cleanup on AoD 975, in a separate topic, with no nominations being accepted during AoD 975. It would consist of me (with the input of others) choosing nominations that I think might be closed or not nominated any further, and separating them from the rest of the nominations. You would then look at that list, and if something is worth saving, you must provide a reason why. As long as it is reasonable, it will be saved. If not, the nomination is deleted. This would only apply to nominations that have been nominated 1-4 times, and the queue would not be affected.

Thoughts? Ideas? Let me know.

Depends on what you're looking for. Most people are happy with a card that costs about $150. There is a big variety, though. You can get video cards for $50-$800, but expect to pay $150 for a current video card that should run new games for a few years that is still affordable.

2. what exists for game controllers?

I love my Logitech Rumblepad 2. It's a PS2 controller clone, essentially. Most PC controllers are based off the PS2 controller, and sometimes the 360 controller. Note that most PC games with "Games for Windows Live" on them are more likely to support your 360 controller.

3. does steam have points cards or anything you can buy or is it necessary to give valve your CC info?

No on the point cards, unfortunately. They do accept Paypal, though. Another option is to buy one of those Visa gift cards (or Mastercard, whatever) and use that.

tl;dr version: What do you think needs to be improved, and what suggestions do you have for it?

I'm looking for suggestions and ideas for improvements to the Board 8 Wiki. From what I've gathered, here are some concerns I have seen:

1. Complaints against the administrators because of page edits/reverts/deletions. As the Board 8 Wiki is bound by the Wikia ToU and the GameFAQs ToU (to a lesser extent), there is not much that can be done in terms of changing rules and such. Still, if there is something you want to see done, by all means post about it!

2. Improper categorization. When the Wiki was young, I let people be relatively free to create categories and categorize their pages. Now I've seen some complaints about the categories being inconsistent and such. Aside from a cleanup project, what ideas do you have about this?

3. The Phoenix Wright logo and the main page. I have been told that PW is no longer a popular enough character for him to represent the board on the Board 8 Wiki. I've also been told that the main page is a mess. Obviously, we will likely either remove the Article of the Week or actually run it (maybe a board project?), but aside from that, how do you feel about it? How about the logo?

I used to take the bus to my local community college sometimes. I would walk to my bus stop, and wait. Although there is a schedule, it is not a consistent one. Therefore, the bus would sometimes arrive 5-10 minutes early or late, and I would be waiting there for as long as 30-45 minutes for a bus if my luck isn't good that day. That's not all, though, because I had a transfer stop. Whenever I would finally get there, I would be on my first bus and see the next bus drive off as I arrive. That's another 30 minutes, at least, but it could be longer. It could also be shorter, and take 30-40 minutes. It made scheduling things a big pain. One good thing was that this was free, as my school gave out bus passes to all full-time students.

In all, it would take me 1-2 hours to get to school, one way. I was spending anywhere from 3-4 hours per day on the bus. Driving with a car, takes 15 minutes if I am being dropped off. Add 5 more if I'm parking and the lots are not nearly empty, and maybe 5 minutes for traffic jams if neither is exceptionally bad. Still, that's less than 30 minutes each way. Even if driving takes 30 minutes on a very bad day, that's still about an hour compared to around 4 hours on the worst days. Yeah, I'd rather get a car. Also, I transferred to a school that would take me 2 hours to get to on a good day. On a bad day, that would be 3-4 hours one way. I'm not going to spend 6-8 hours a day on public transit when a car gets me there and back in 1-2 hours assuming I am not traveling during rush hour.

Maybe if they properly funded public transportation and it ran reasonably fast enough (no bus every 30-45 minutes BS), included rail on my route sooner (working on it at my university), and most importantly, design cities to support it, maybe I would use public transportation. As it is, public transportation is a good way to get yourself late or way too early and pissed off, at least in Los Angeles.

However, I will admit that Boston and New York actually know how to do public transportation. I didn't use a car at all in either city, and I was still able to get around everywhere by subway and walking. I wish Los Angeles could be like that, although LA is working on rail.

The point of it was for others to be able to give me input on whether there is any actual merit to those nominations, because I didn't see any reason to let them continue. As long as people provided a good reason why I should allow it in, it would be saved.

I think the only noms you've actually done anything about are ones that could potentially get the topic modded.

Actually, a few months ago, there was an AoD topic where I made a list of nominations that might be removed, unless people gave me a reason to keep them. I admit that I haven't been doing this consistently, since I've only done it once! But as I said, I am planning to do it again at some point.

But you seem reluctant to institute any sort of control over this thing on your own, and the only reason I can figure is that you don't want anyone to get mad at you.

It's partly because I am lazy about it, mainly because with the changes to nominations. 5 people at minimum must nominate a topic for it to get in. The only issue now is with the high amount of total nominations, which I've developed a solution for that will mainly show those nominations if you click a link instead of me splitting it into 3 parts.

Note: Unless someone has a particularly convincing argument doing so, I'm probably not going to actually ban LMS from nominating anything as a result of this topic. My vew below explains my reasoning.

My view: Disagree. I have not seen him breaking any rules, only making nominations that people don't really like. So, considering that I have not seen him breaking any rules, I don't see a reason to ban him. A rule stating that a person should be banned from nominations, whether or not it is actually in the list of rules or not, seems way too subjective for me to actually enforce it and ban people because of it. That said, I can enforce the rule saying I can remove anything, and I am planning to clean up the nominations list soon.

Rules:
1. Nominations must be open to debate. Use words like best, worst, or a variant thereof sparingly.
2. You are allowed to just agree or disagree without discussing the topic, but discussion of said topic is not only welcomed, it's allowed.
3. No alts, no flaming, no rallying, and no trolling.
4. You can nominate up to three different nominations every day. You cannot use them on one twice/three times in one day, and you can only nominate something once.
4a. You can also denominate a potential topic at any of the nomination levels. Denominations use up two regular nominations however, and afterword you can only nominate one item. Also, if you are denoming an item at five, please give a reason as to why. And no, "it is bad" won't work. If the item is denommed at 5, it must be renommed within 3 AoD topics or it will lose its scheduled date.
5. In long posts (IE: over a paragraph) Please bold/do something to your vote so I can pick it out.

Remember: that I can (and will) remove anything I deem worthless, useless, pointless, stupid, or too silly.
