Last Day's Character This Alucard doesn't do nearly as well as that other Alucard.
Today's Character This is what happens when you tell somebody, "Hey pick a character you want me to do and I'll do it." I don't know anything about Fight Club because nobody will talk to me about it, so I can't give you any sort of introduction beyond this.
Alright, I'd like to propose a toast. Little toast here, ding ding. I know this isn't exactly the kind of Thanksgiving that all of you planned; but for me this has been really great, you know... I think because it didn't involve divorce or projectile vomiting. Anyway, I was just thinking, I mean, if you'd gone to Vail, if you guys had been with your family, or if you didn't have syphilis and stuff, we wouldn't be all together, you know? So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm very thankful that all of your Thanksgivings sucked.
26. Guy (Final Fight) Quote: Every man must walk his own path. Are you certain you have found yours?
First of all, the dudes name in Japanese means Victorious. How awesome is that? Second of all, hes a ninja who wears sneakers. What a brilliant idea! Its also because hes quite the runner, apparently. According to Capcom, Guy can run a 100-meter dash in 10.2 seconds. As you can probably surmise if you read my Super Street Fighter IV writeup, that game is largely the reason hes on the list, but I was actually a Guy fan as far back as the original Final Fight. I was pretty upset when he wasnt included in the original SNES version of Final Fight, but at least Capcom made up for it later by making Final Fight Guy so you could play as him because he was the best one. He was the fastest, and he had the wall jump kick, which was great.
I also really liked Guy in the Street Fighter Alpha series. I used him a lot there, which is part of the reason I was so excited when he was announced for Super Street Fighter IV. Hes a lot of fun to use, and he fits the way I like to play fighters. I like to be aggressive when I play fighting games (probably too aggressively), so I like how you can play rushdown with Guy with his run moves. Plus, I like how you can play misdirection with him since he has three different run moves: One that stops without doing any attack, one that hits low, and one that hits high but hits overhead if you block low. I also like his vertical Hurricane Kick type move, which can be a good anti-air move if you can time it correctly. And of course, I love flips. And flips. And flips. And flips! Theyre good for aggression and mind games as well, since you can try to use them to fake out your opponent to trying to anti-air you while you either land in front of them or fly right past them and get behind them. Probably the main drawback for me with Guy in SSFIV is that Im no good at landing either of his Ultras since you have to be really close to land either of them (one of them is a grab move with an unusual input, which makes it worse), and theyre not good for countering stuff for the most part unless you have someone whos dumb enough to let you hit them with a wake up Ultra (which occasionally happens !).
I also like Guys rivalry with Cody. Its pretty interesting for a beat-em-up/fighting game story, I think. In the original Final Fight after you beat the last boss and rescue Codys girlfriend Jessica, instead of staying around to make sure shes okay and to generally be there to comfort her and stuff, Cody decides to just leave. Of course, Guy realizes hes being a complete moron and punches him in the gut so Jessica can catch up to him and not let him get away. Their rivalry in the Alpha and SFIV games brings a new twist to it now that Codys become a prison inmate, and Guy has a hard time accepting that his old friend who used to help him fight crime has now sunk to the depths of becoming a criminal himself. They have some cool interactions in the games, such as Guy commenting that he can still sense some good and justice in Cody when he notices that he only seems to pick fights with criminals and people like that, who tries to blow it off as just being a guy who likes to fight. Cody essentially tells him, Ive changed. Youve changed. These things happen. Deal with it. So they have a pretty neat dynamic, I think.
I also like that Guy is an honorable fighter who only seeks to use his skills when theyre needed to help someone. Hes a very stoic person in general and takes things very seriously. Im sure that comes across as boring to some people, but hes a ninja whos hardcore into being a ninja, so thats cool with me.
Bonus Question: Who is your favorite fighting game character?
From: ZFS | #020 SF4 best fighting game. You know, there's always a match with you that stands out whenever I think about notable SFIV online matches I've had, and it's the one where I counter a Juri dive kick with Cody's Ultra 1 to win the match. I'm pretty sure I saved it after the fact, and that's probably because:
1. I hate dive kicks 2. I hate Juri
Plus, she dived right into it. It's almost as if that Ultra was designed to counter dive kicks.

"So cold. I am always by your side." "There ain't no gettin' off of this train we on!"
If you just want to watch the scenes, you can skip the second video since its all battle, although you can check it out and skip around for the mid-battle dialogues, which are always great. Playstation-era Final Fantasy was great for ending the first part of the game with a bang, and Final Fantasy Tactics is no exception. The opening scene where Algus kills Teta on Zalbags orders serves as an eye opener, not just for Ramza, but the player as well, as he begins to realize that the world is not as idealistic as he imagined it to be (By the way, the music stopping when Algus kills Teta is an excellent touch). FFT had slowly been building up to something great as Chapter 1 progressed, and it definitely delivered on the build up with this part of the game.
First of all, the battle itself is pretty tough, at least for me. Algus comes equipped with Auto-Potion, which makes him a little bit tougher to kill because he can counteract a lot of the damage you can do if youre not power leveling (especially considering my Ramza has bad compatibility with Algus, so he does less damage anyway). He also has the crossbow and generally focuses on killing Delita as quickly as possible. The Wizards can make life tough for you, and I generally try to go kamikaze on them by sending one guy straight up to them so the spell hits the caster and usually kills them after you land a solid attack on them while they are charging. Your party is also split into two teams, so that can make it harder to work together and form a potent offense, at least for me. Keep in mind that I am bad at FFT, so Im sure its easy for some of you, but not for me.
Of course, its the story that makes this part of the game shine. After Dycedarg giving you his word that he would make sure Teta was rescued safely, he and Zalbag stab Ramza and Delita in the back by not only hiring Algus to help him in the attack on Fort Zeakden, but by ordering him to fire the killing blow. Then you get some great mid-battle dialogue between the three of them, especially Ramza and Algus arguing over the duties of the nobility. You can tell Ramzas struggling to process everything hes just seen. He just cant comprehend what happened. You can see the pain of betrayal and manipulation in Delita as well, and this moment was the catalyst for all he does for the rest of the game. A lot of things in FFT are set in motion with this moment. Plus, you get to kill Algus, so that battle is great for some much-needed catharsis.
The scene after the fight is excellent as well, especially Ramzas speech after the fort explodes. Ive taken my whole life for granted. When it came down to it, I dropped it all and ran. Great quote that succinctly summarizes the mindset of a man whose naïveté was abruptly and forcibly shattered. Final Fantasy Tactics has a lot of great moments, but this one stands out the most to me because the game just hits you with several gut punches right in a row, and youre just left feeling like, Man, that really sucked. Not in the sense that it was poor quality, of course, but in the sense that you feel despondent about what just happened. Moments that leave you feeling that way are hard to come by, which makes them all the more special when they do happen.

"Hold on a minute! That testimony stinks!" "Witness! You can't just say 'Hello' and expect us to get anywhere! I want you to testify!"
The Titans were really fortunate to be in that game at all, because the Rams could've easily been up 21-0 at halftime, and we managed to hold them to three FGs. And then when we fought all the way back to tie it and Warner hit that long TD pass like 30 seconds later, man, that was a seriously deflating moment, followed by the Titans having to start the final drive deep in their own territory with less than two minutes left in the game. Man, McNair was so amazing on that last drive.
I don't think a team I root for has played for a championship since...the last time the Spurs won a title back in 2007. Well, the Lady Vols won back to back national titles a few years ago, but I don't really pay attention to women's basketball, so it wasn't as big of a deal to me. And other than the Spurs winning 4 titles since 1999, I haven't had much luck with my sports teams winning.
