And what have you done to minimize insults in the world, if you're so righteous?

Not because justice needs to be done or for the greater good, just because you could seize upon doing so personally.

Why do you keep making topics about how you're apparently going to freak out in anger and do bad things? This shit is weird, man. Get help.

Because I hate myself and you're going down with me.

sometimes they're not so bad - a lot of people are here because of them (I guess how good/bad that is depends on the person).

and other times they can lead to people being crippled or dead...

Well if you're killed you can't exactly learn your lesson.

But it's those things where you absolutely recognize what a shit decision it was and definitely won't do it again/are VERY sorry you caused something yet the shadow it casts won't leave you for years and years, long after the message was sent and received and now just making your life hell.

It's certainly a lot more work.

But sometimes it is important to have additonal post in the topic modded to provide context on the topic itself as it isn't uncommon to have bad faith topics made but with innocuous first post.

Yeah but I already get it (at least in my example). The topic was never on strong footing permissibly but I felt what I wanted to post in it was well thought out and worth saying. To delete individual posts for "politics outside CE" before deleting the topic itself for that just comes off as "we made these rules for a reason and these little shits think they're safe by letting the TC take the fall while they freely sling political rhetoric around on GameFAQs, time for a reality check."

Basically a "You should all KNOW better but since you're all complicit by taking advantage of someone else's bad choice to make your own bad choice on top of it then consequences will be issued to everyone. The TC being wrong doesn't make it okay for the rest of you to join in."

Gee, thanks.

I feel like if you're going to downvote something then you should have to comment why you don't agree with what someone said.

The downvote system is SUPPOSED to be a way to push posts that are actually worthy contributions to the top but instead people downvote things they don't like to hear.

And then when you call everyone out for their irrational downvoting you get downvoted harshly for pointing out how petty everyone's being. This is 100% guaranteed to happen.

I don't trust Dashers to the point that I tip them just so they actually follow through on the order. I feel like it's paying protection money because I don't think the service is something I'd tip for, otherwise (I rarely, RARELY interact with my driver - I try to keep the process as non-interactive as possible unless I'm at a hotel or some other location where I can't just have them drop it).

...to the efforts of scambaiters.

In years past the usual advice was "we're not going to intervene on the tips of vigilantes, just ignore scam attempts and do not engage."

But in recent times scams have accelerated grossly and there are more domestic components to these scams. Letting scambaiters submit tips to investigate things like money mule accounts is genuinely disruptive to these scam attempts. With how many stories I see of people succumbing to scams on the news involving people who volunteer their own time to occupy, investigate, and disrupt scammers could have genuinely beneficial results. It's clear just relying on official channels isn't slowing the surge of digital scams so take the help where you can get it, I say.

Exactly. It's randomly targeting the car that happened to be behind the tow truck.

You're actually going to attempt this? In an age where EVERYONE has a cell phone and a call to 911 that "this guy towed my car while I was stopped at a stoplight" is going to result from it? Talk about putting a target on your back.

Honestly I think part of the reason this is renting space in my head is also due to the lack of incredulity that the news reports I've seen on it have given this story. If I was trying to explain this to a television audience I'd want to convey how ludicrous the whole thing is.

Jen0125 posted...
Tow truck companies are just really operating in bad faith 90% of the time. That's not an exaggeration. If you Google this specific video you'll find this tow company was banned from operating in San Francisco and situations like this show why.

This goes one step beyond, though. Being duplicitous and towing cars that they have no business towing is one thing but the sheer brazenness of trying to tow a car that is being actively driven in full view of everyone defies all sensibility.

Like crime should have a point, shouldn't it? Even seemingly random acts have meaning to the person committing them, if nothing else. I cannot comprehend how anyone could possibly think trying to do this in any way serves a purpose.

The only thing that even kind of makes sense is if this was done out of...spite? For being banned (like "they won't let me tow in their fucking city, I'll show them" - that still doesn't make a lot of sense, though)? I found the full details of this tow company after this video first landed on my YouTube feed but even just knowing they were banned doesn't explain why anyone would try to do something like this.

To put it succinctly: why would someone do something that, if they actually go through with it and "succeed", has a 100% chance of being caught and brings no upside?
