Hundreds of the worlds leading climate scientists expect global temperatures to rise to at least 2.5C (4.5F) this century, blasting past internationally agreed targets and causing catastrophic consequences for humanity and the planet, an exclusive Guardian survey has revealed.
Almost 80% of the respondents, all from the authoritative Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), foresee at least 2.5C of global heating above preindustrial levels, while almost half anticipate at least 3C (5.4F). Only 6% thought the internationally agreed 1.5C (2.7F) limit will be met.
Many of the scientists envisage a semi-dystopian future, with famines, conflicts and mass migration, driven by heatwaves, wildfires, floods and storms of an intensity and frequency far beyond those that have already struck.
Numerous experts said they had been left feeling hopeless, infuriated and scared by the failure of governments to act despite the clear scientific evidence provided.
I think we are headed for major societal disruption within the next five years, said Gretta Pecl, at the University of Tasmania. [Authorities] will be overwhelmed by extreme event after extreme event, food production will be disrupted. I could not feel greater despair over the future.
Still can't believe we never began tackling climate change during the height of COVID when haulting all unnecessary travel and going remote where possible led to a drop in carbon emissions. We'll start when it's too late. Millions of people will die, but hey turns out you can put a price on lives.
We are not a serious species.
Wait, they expect the world to go to hell from Climate Change within the next five years? No, within the next century, not decade
Unless the oligarchs that control the countries care, nothing will be done to change it.They wouldn't inherit the world, they don't give a shit.
No, within the next century, not decadeThe last quoteblock from TC.

Ehh, I've already made peace with the fact we're completely fucked. The good news is that the Earth can heal itself just fine. The Earth is hardy and has gone through a lot worse than what humanity is doing to it. It has natural processes in place to reduce the carbon in its atmosphere.
If you've been paying attention the seasons the last few years it'd be pretty obvious things are going sideways. I can only hope when we eventually get our shit together Earth can heal herself relatively quickly.
I feel like this is a much too important article to make with a memey title like that.Nah, pretty appropriate. The earth has know this was happening for decades, and yet here we are. Can only laugh at this point, really.
But well be sure to blame immigrants for leaving their famine ridden countries that cant produce anymoreI wouldn't be surprised if the 1% is already figuring out how to capitalize on the idea of climate refugees and figure out how to manipulate people into viewing them as the enemy.
Figuring out? Its already happening. Look at Europe.I don't understand what the end goal is. It's a given that we're looking at multifaceted societal collapse but how does this play into the elite making the world a place where they want to live? Playing devil's advocate if I were a multibillionaire I would hate living in some kind of luxury enclave or bunker knowing that the rest of the world is literally burning.
