I was thinking bout the whole Whitney argument and I honestly like the idea of a character from a game that's "for/accessible to" kids and from my childhood and settled for the big Seph. No clue if my ass would still be trounced if I revisited him though ... Probably
Mutant Ninja Turtles
while that is not wrong, can you really imagine nintendo deciding to rely on a... sequel? prequel? to do the business for them on a new unproven consoleKeep in mind the first Switch mainline Pokemon was the equally unproven Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee.
Current headcount:
6 locks at 7/x
5 near-locks at 6/x
37 probably-safe at 5/x
66 contenders at 4/x
109 upstarts at 3/x
117 wildcards at 2/2, with 33 that would make the top 256
A bunch at 2/1 and below (but there's always hope)
Like yeah, the Wii was the console for people who didn't play video games before and haven't played them since, so I guess it's unique in that regardSure if the Switch didnt exist youd have an argument but it does, and explicit successors to that sort of stuff on Wii like Nintendo Switch Sports and Ring Fit Adventures have done quite well.
For all this talk of the Wii making video games less niche, it still didn't outsell the PS2 or even PS1, so it can't have brought that many new players in, and most people who weren't gamers and bought Wii Fit or whatever probably didn't stick around. You gotta look at attach rates. The Wiis top 7 games all outsold every game on PS2. In terms of selling games it was unmatched til the Switch.
90s were important formative times for console gaming being something that wasn't super nicheSure but the Wii did that significantly more and you aren't voting for it
Atari 2600Fuck it, change 2600 to Wii. Might as well ensure one of those two win.
NES
PS2
Switch
SNES is what doesn't belong here from the popular options, I think
this is as dumb as the people who say that consoles with backwards compatibility are better than their predecessors because it includes the entire previous libraryBackwards compatibility is a useful feature, especially the digital library style that Sony and Microsoft have been doing recently. I'm not actually including PC, it's not actually a console so it's disqualified, but I think considering it is valid.
