HEAR YE! HEAR YE! (yall and stay close to the funky... idk the rest of the words)
If you know me, you might know that I famously adore shovelware music. And so, I have decided to give myself a possibly daunting task of listening to as many shovelware soundtracks as you can throw at me. (By as many, I mean 1 or possibly 2 per person depending on how daunting the task is...)

Shovelware, according to how I feel at least, is a type of game that is made either for a licensed property, a trend or for a very specific audience, usually some child interest. I don't think all licensed games are shovelware, not out of quality but out of their principle of. being made, I guess? For example, I think Spider-Man 2 (PS2) is shovelware, due to the fact it was released to tie in with a movie, while Spider-Man 2 (PS5) is not, as it was released to just be a game representing Spider-Man as a property. This is a bit complex and might require some thought, but I will be pretty lenient with decisions so hopefully your picks should be okay. Sorry for how unclear this is lol. Main point: Shovelware is not just bad games, just usually a game that, for one reason or another, was made to get sales for a specific market - usually of kids, but not always.

Some basic rules:
  • Shovelware only please! If I deem something to not be shovelware, I might ask for a new nomination, although this probably won't happen. If you can make a fair case for it, I'll allow it.
  • 1 OST per person to start with, but, if the task seems feasible, I will up it to 2 at some point. Check back in!
  • I will only listen to 45 minutes of soundtracks that are over 45 minutes. Probably. If it's not too far over that it's fine and if there aren't many long soundtracks, I can deal with it, but I just want to ensure I'm not selling my life away to 5 3 hour soundtrack submissions or something.


Standardised format would be nice but not necessary. To make it clear when you're giving me a game, for example, the Wii version of Chuck E Cheese's Party Games, do this

and if you decide you no longer feel in the Party Games mood
X Chuck E Cheese's Party Games (Wii)
(i'm doing the X since gamefaqs seems to hate me every time i try to use a - )

i will say. i think it was really hard for me to use "Shovelware" as a thing and try to explain it bcos, yea this ends up letting stuff like just. quirky indie games slip through the cracks of my definition. i'd say no, sorry.

Fair enough. Then I'd probably go with a boring answer like:

So trash that it was only released in a two pack with another piece of shovelware, based on a comic that very few people remember (because Marvel killed the Ultraverse, but that's a long story), and only known for its title theme: an over seven minute long progressive rock epic composed by the Follin brothers. Hard to decide on a link for the OST though... KHInsider isn't my first choice, but none of the YouTube links are right; one version of the OST only uses a shortened version of the theme (and if you're not going to play the whole theme, what are we even doing here?) and the other doesn't have names for any of the tracks. You're of course free to use either set of YouTube links if preferred, but this is the best source I could track down.

If this doesn't count for whatever reason (too mainstream of a pick?) then... uhhh... I have a Care Bears soundtrack saved somewhere but I have too much nostalgia for the game to consider it shovelware.

this should count but shovelware is not at all a depictor of quality in this case. shovelware can be good (which is honestly one of the main points i wanted to push by making this!)
mainstream picks aren't banned or anything btw lol, i just like finding fun new stuff (frankly, never heard of this OR the marvel comic and i have had very big marvel fan phases, squirrel girl 4 life)

Ah, then I am glad I went with it. I feel everyone should experience the theme at least once.

Short version: Ultraverse was a competitor to Marvel & DC. Marvel bought them out, merged their universes through a seventh infinity gem (Ego) which I don't think ever got mentioned again, and ran the brand into the ground in record time. I think there's some rights kerfuffle where no one can ever use the characters again, so they're a pretty deep cut in terms of comic lore.
Currently not in the mood to have a signature.

Okay I will say. For context to people who might not know me as well. Old console recs are completely fine but just know I'm uh. kinda known for not being big on SNES if it doesn't sound like Amiga. Not to discourage from SNES nominations tho lol just something to note if people have to decide

I think most of the loop points are shorter than their length would make them seem so you can probably skim the whole thing in 45 minutes anyway.
