Everyone's favorite bi-annual character contest is back!

The character must have premiered in the year of the contest (2023), though there are exceptions.

  • Characters who previously premiered in literature or comics are eligible based on their film/tv/game appearances.
  • Characters who previously premiered in media appearances may be considered new if the interpretation of the character is new (ex. Gotham's "Batman" characters) but only that particular version of the character is eligible (just use your best judgment, if the character seems new they probably count).
  • Characters will typically go by their American release date (though it gets tricky in some cases; as long as they haven't already been nominated in the previous years I'm not gonna fuss one way or the other).
  • Real people are only eligible if they're highly fictionalized (so no biopics, but Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter is fine)


Biannual disclaimer: Yeah, the rules are always gonna have some detractors (and I'll admit that it's not perfect) but we're [insert number] years in now so please for the love of god let's just roll with it.

  • Each user gets 10 nominations every 24 hours.
  • Please specify what each nomination is from
  • 3 nominations will guarantee a character gets in
  • More than 3 nominations will get the characters higher seeding
  • First 64 characters with 3 or more will make it in.

I haven't played the RE4 remake but there was a character in the FFVII remake (Jessie Rasberry I think) that ended up being eligible because she was extremely different and more significant than in the original game. Is it a situation like that?

Yeah, that happens a lot of the time due to things like early festival premiers. The theatrical release was in 2023 so it's fine

Yeah I figured Joel and Ellie would end up getting nominated and then that would be a thing because they kinda skate around a technicality despite being extremely similar to the originals

but with Bill there's no question imo, he was an entirely different character from game Bill

I am going to say that to me personally, Luis is not suitably different. They add backstory and texture to an existing character (and do a great job of it) but do not make a new character entirely. Of course I would have said the same thing to Jessie too (although that did more than this) so make of that what you will. On Scott Pilgrim, them not being different characters is actually important to the plot .
