I've been playing MH since PS2 and bought an online adapter and everything. I made a Japanese PSN account on PS3 so I could use that share play thing to play Freedom Unite online. I loooooooooove Monster Hunter.

I thought World is one of the best, if not the best. 4U is still more than likely my favorite of all time (reaaaaaaally wish they would port that over or something instead of Generations U) but World was a huge step forward that I really enjoyed. Yeah there wasn't really an end game but the improvements to everything (sans multiplayer, they fucked that up hard) was worth it imo.
This is basically echoing my feelings on things. I also used the online thing on PS3 to play Freedom Unite online :D

It was unfortunate that my apartment was broken into and they stole all my gaming consoles shortly after that so I didn't get enough play time before it was gone :(

Was such a cool feature though, basically tricking your PSP into thinking you were over local wireless. Wish it came to America but considering the prevalence of mobile over in Japan it makes sense it was kept like that.

Not that it's unique to world though, I know MH has always been a series that has been on and off with online/timed services and events, but I like those entries the least

MH is basically a live service game, only it avoids that moniker because it predates the term.

Six years ago I'd probably have been like wtf, but tbh I don't really care at this point. World set the tone for future games, and I hope people that like the "new" MH style have fun with Wilds.

Really the only thing that pisses me off is the bulk of the series being stuck on aging platforms; I wish they'd port the older games to PC, but I get the sense its not going to happen any time soon...
FYI the official MonHun channel has been putting out small guides on basic mechanics and weapons:

They've done great sword, HBG, insect glaive, and gunlance so far.

Been playing since Freedom, 4U is still the peak of MonHun imo, was not a big fan of the casualization introduced in World and doubled down on in Rise. That being said, I can also concede that the casualization has helped the series flourish, and it never affected my overall enjoyment of World or Rise. Literally my biggest complaints with World was the awful ore/bone with a bit of feathers/scales slapped on weapon designs and the way you HAVE to see a cutscene to allow othe people to join your hunt. If I were to rank all the games I've played in order from most to least favorite it would be as follows: 4U > World = Rise > 3U > GU > FU > F2 > F1 > Tri.

I love this series and I am absolutely hyped for Wilds. I just hope the fix the way multiplayer worked in World and the weapon designs don't follow in the steps of World's weapon designs. The removal of wire bugs (even though I did enjoy them) is a step in the right direction too.
Wild ARMs is still the best JRPG series in my opinion and we desperately need a new game in the series!
The weapons all look great so far.
Ah, yes, the Negotiator: General Kenobi
<sneaky beeping>
my favorite part about world was how the weapons felt and played (most of them anyway) and wilds is looking to deliver on that
helps that they're bringing in moves from frontier (the other game which had the best feeling weapons)

Gunlance lookin' cool but I'm trying to see what we lance enjoyers getting this time around.

IG and GL drill moves look neat. Woulda been nice if they really leaned into IG's aerial attacks and combos and expanded on them from Sunbreak, but at least it looks like the bug is contributing now.

Yaasssssss. At least give us one hammer with a jet boosty animation while charging.

Coming from Freedom 2 to now, gunlance has come a loooooooooong way. Felt like I needed to switch to Hammers in the old ones to actually take out monsters by myself.

Just watched the video, hell yes the gunlance looks like it's got some sweet new moves. And that charge similar to the regular lance as well as a counter now? Oh baby.

If Wilds has Valstrax and its hammer doesn't have a jet engine on it than Wilds has failed us. I'll forgive Rise because the switch didn't have enough blast processing to render it.

thinking about it we're definitely getting at least one new longsword counterattack this game, aren't we

I hope they bring back sacred sheathe from Rise too.

Was that why Crimson Valstrax weapons didn't have jets? There were definitely special weapons with unique animations in Rise, but I was disappointed that jet weapons weren't among them.

Aww man that reminds me, I hope switch skills return. By that I do not mean silkbind moves (since wire bugs aren't in it) or even special moves. Just the ability to unlock changes to each weapon's basic moveset. I really liked how you had different options for how weapons played and often both options were totally viable.

Also if hammer doesn't get Water Strike back, then idk about Wilds...

It was mostly a joke. I'm sure a lot of things had to be dialed back to make it run on the switch, but "blast processing" was an old marketing term Sega used during the Genesis era. Around the same time they talked about "Sega does what nintendon't"

Ohhh okay lol. In that case, I will continue to be disappointed in Capcom for denying us rocket hammers. Almost as bad as denying us poogies.

Rise broke my hunting horn

I couldn't stand it. I barely played it as a result. I dumped huge hours in Tri, and the permutations of 4 using my hunting horn. Then I get rise and the thing is totally different. It really cheesed me off.

Yes I know the hH isn't in Tri.

The distinction between portable and main series seems pretty much dead at this point. I'd love to see how Valstrax would work in a World style game.

I don't think that's true. Most monsters that nag on my suspension of disbelief that this is a totes for reals world tend to stick to the portable titles. Off the top of my head the only mon in World I think should go back to portable titles is Zinogre.

Maybe glavenus too, but I don't feel very strongly about him.

Edit: wow, mods closed my Chatacabra topic and didn't even tell me. How rude!
In World, you had to find certain items that help you track the monster. I loved this. I felt like like I was on National Geographic hunting for stuff lol.

The horn guide is out. Not only does it look like the old way of playing songs is back, but it has a brand new mechanic.

I'm already getting disappointed thinking about the cool monsters that may not make it in because they don't fit the real life aesthetic. I love shit like Valstrax, Astalos, Gore Magala, and Mizutsune. There's a lot of wacky shit in MH that I want them to continue to lean into

Longsword video is out. The game is looking super grounded and way less the fast-paced game that Rise became.

I'm not seeing the issue with Gore and Mizutsune in a main series. Gore originated in the main series. I think Valstrax might make it in on popularity. I wish Astalos wasn't even in Rise >_>

it's already looking faster than world. Rise is the direction they want to go in.

Hammer time, baybee. Nothing too flashy in terms of new tricks. Looks like it kind of has Keeping Sway from Sunbreak and the Big Bang Combo looks a little faster maybe? Eh who cares, bonking is back on the menu, boys.

The worry about wanting these games to be "grounded" has always made me laugh. We're playing a game where we use oversized, over the top weapons to slay big fantastical creatures. These games were never "grounded."

I'm not even too concerned with the games being grounded in the same way World was. I do prefer the faster gameplay of Rise and GU, but don't mind World's take on combat.

What I don't want is to see bland weapon and armor designs like world had, where some monsters weapons had pre existing designs and still ended up capping at the iron or bone design (looking at the nargacuga and glavenus weapons)

I'm not sure if world was just going for a more "realistic" design on the weapons there, but that still wouldn't make sense next to stuff like wyvern ignition. I really don't know why so many of the weapons looked like shit
