People object to this less because they want kids looking at porn and more because of the extreme privacy risks involved.

Wouldn't it be just fucking GREAT if some porn site got hacked and your drivers license suddenly is out there? Usually it's an annoyance of having to change your credit card number but now you have identity theft to worry about now.
The commercial says that Church isn't for perfect people, I guess that's why I'm an atheist.

Yeah, it's not so much about the protecting children. It's just more so a way to give strangers a name and face to go with all your viewing habits. Normally it'd be fine if it were immoral content, but vanilla boobies is enough to collect a database on.

The company is supposed to dispose of it after confirmation, but that can either be a lie or it'll somehow mysteriously end up for sale somewhere.

I'm in Louisiana and there's a lot of verification we have to do but its done third party. Rather than using my license, they use whatever government app I have instead. I forget the name but there's an app you can get to even renew your license or whatever and they can use that app.

I've already called and messaged my representatives. Also hope that if it gets far, Newsom would veto it. Who knows though?

Even setting aside the very real privacy concerns, we currently live in a world where half the government is making a concerted effort to frame a lot of genuinely educational material as adult content, particularly in regards to women and LGBTQ content. So even if the privacy concerns were somehow resolved, we'd still be left with a legal cudgel to be used against already vulnerable groups of people.

It's a horrendous idea and it's genuinely distressing how it is getting the pass from some democratic lawmakers just because it's flying under the PrOrEcT cHiLdReN banner.

Mississippi did this... last year? So far they've literally done nothing to enforce it, just pass the law and pat themselves on the back. So far the only things I've seen is politicians attacking each other during election time claiming the other wants kids to view porn. The libraries also lost access to e-books entirely and random books were removed. School libraries would be one thing, but it also included public ones.

It totally makes sense to block access to adult sites entirely from school/libraries, but it's certainly fitting into the whole belief it's to just control/target based on some of the removed material.

The California State Assembly passed the Parents Accountability and Child Protection Act that will require porn companies doing business in the state to verify that users are 18 years or older.

So this is only for legit porn business based in California apparently. Not sure how it's gonna stop anyone from seeing porn since it comes from everywhere.
