Israel's foreign ministry said Thursday that Israel's ties with Ireland, Norway and Spain will face "serious consequences" after their governments decided to recognise a Palestinian state from next week.
"There will be additional serious consequences for relations with their countries following the decision they made," the ministry statement quoted top official Jacob Blitstein as saying.
Blitstein was speaking during a meeting with the envoys of the three countries to "reprimand" them for their governments' move announced on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Israeli officials showed the three envoys a video of the kidnapping of five women soldiers during the October 7 attack by Hamas.
The three-minute clip, also released to the media on Wednesday, showed the women sitting on the ground, some with blood on their faces, with their hands tied following their capture from the Nahal Oz base in southern Israel.
The footage was taken from a two-hour video filmed on a body camera by Hamas militants during the attack, campaign group Hostage and Missing Families Forum said in a statement accompanying the clip.
At Thursday's meeting, Blitstein "reprimanded the ambassadors for the perverse decision of their governments to recognise a Palestinian state," the ministry statement said.

He said the recognition move makes it "more difficult to promote a deal for the release of hostages" still held in Gaza by Palestinian militants.
The coordinated announcements by the three governments came days after the International Criminal Court prosecutor said he would seek arrest warrants for Israel's prime minister and defence minister as well as Hamas leaders over alleged war crimes during the Gaza conflict.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who has visited several countries to drum up support for recognition, said the move would reinforce efforts to revive a two-state solution to the Middle East conflict.
Israel has reacted with fury, immediately recalling its envoys to the three countries.

"The intention of several European countries to recognise a Palestinian state is a reward for terror," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday, adding that a sovereign State of Palestine would be a "terror state".
Are they going to bomb them to shit too and displace 80% of the population?

HAAAA ha ha ha ha ha!!!! *gasp* HAAAAA HA HA HA HAAA!
I don't think Ireland, Norway or Spain particularly care about Israel's threat.
The commercial says that Church isn't for perfect people, I guess that's why I'm an atheist.
Well the Irish know first hand what colonialism and apartheid is like.
I wonder if the US would keep supplying Israel with weapons if they started bombing those countries.
This is where cool people write stuff.
I'm sure those consequences are them sleeping more soundly at night knowing that genocidal monsters are raging.

Those women were the frontline of defense, monitoring the border.
They had warned for months that Hamas was up to something, but were ignored.

Israel will prohibit the Spanish Embassy from providing services to West Bank Palestinians, Israel's foreign minister announced Friday, following Spain's move toward recognition of a Palestinian state and remarks by the deputy prime minister considered antisemitic by foreign minister Israel Katz.

"In response to Spain's recognition of a Palestinian state and the antisemitic call by Spain's Deputy Prime Minister to ... 'liberate Palestine from the river to the sea,' I have decided to ... prohibit the Spanish consulate in Jerusalem from providing services to Palestinians from the West Bank," Katz wrote on Friday in a post on X.

"If this ignorant, hate-filled individual wants to understand what radical Islam truly seeks, she should study the 700 years of Islamic rule in Al-Andalus today's Spain," Katz added.

Katz says that Israel intends to retaliate in additional ways, as well.

US and Egyptian intelligence also warned the Israeli government in... IIRC September or August, but they brushed it off as bullshit.

Israel also stopped monitoring Hamas radio traffic, calling it a "waste of time".

Netanyahu wanted some sort of attack because he needed to justify him staying in power when he should have been reporting to prison.

How? Wouldn't a sovereign government with standing have more power to negotiate an exchange of hostages?

Half of the problem comes from the power imbalance of Palestine not having the recognition, relationships, and (among so many other things on this long list) self-policing power that they need?

Give Palestine recognition. Set them up with a constitution and new political parties. Give them a government and self-determinism, and I think we can see things improve from there.

Did pepole forget we spent over twenty years trying to mold Afghanistan into a functional democracy only for it to be a total failure...how long do you think it would take to prop up Gaza as its own state so it would not end up to be as failed a state as Afghanistan?
The envoys should make Blitstein watch a 3 minute clip of patients that were in a Palestinian Hospital where the staff was forced to evacuate by IDF.

Gaza had democracy before Israel decided to fund Hamas just to fuck with their election.

Gaza had democracy before Israel decided to fund Hamas just to f*** with their election.

Do you REALLY think that the Fatah government lead by Yasser Arafat was beacon of freedom and justice?

Hamas was not the only ones that caused harm when you account for

  • The 1970 Avivim school bus massacre by the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), killed nine children, three adults and crippled 19.
  • In the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the second-largest PLO faction after al-Fatah, carried out a number of attacks and plane hijackings mostly directed at Israel, most infamously the Dawson's Field hijackings, which precipitated the Black September crisis.
  • In 1972, the Black September Organization carried out the Munich massacre of Israeli Olympic athletes.
  • In 1974, members of the DFLP seized a school in Israel and killed a total of 26 students and adults and wounded over 70 in the Ma'alot massacre.
  • The 1975, Savoy Hotel hostage situation killing 8 hostages and 3 soldiers, carried out by Fatah.
  • The 1978, Coastal Road massacre killing 37 Israelis and wounding 76, also carried out by Fatah.
And more...Israel has its sins but acting like Gaza was a peaceful jolly nation that Israel turned into monsters is revisionist history.

Afghanistan is huge and geographically disparate, making a centralized and unified effort to govern incredibly hard.

West Bank and Gaza, if you don't redraw the borders is 1/15 the size of Indiana. It has to be ton easier than Afghanistan ever would be. Logistically, at least. Can't speak too much on political horse races and how easy that would be.

Gaza has a population of 2.3m.

Afghanistan had a population of 20 million when the US went in. 40 million when we left.

...I don't get it. Do they mean that the people that are dual national Spanish/Palestinian won't be able to use the services of their own embassy? Because I am pretty certain that is impossible and against every law ever related to embassies. You can't make it illegal for someone to access the services of his own state's embassy.

If they mean non dual nationals who want a visa and the like then that sounds like it breaks a few diplomatic rules too, but at least it sounds plausible as they aren't citizens of that country.

A lot of the reason why it was a failure was no fault of the Afghan people, but rather consistent and deliberate sabotage at the behest of corporate interests and bureaucratic incompetence.

Furthermore, these situations are so wildly disparate that it is very difficult to believe that any reasonable person approaching this situation in good faith would ever think this way.
