Not even the line, although that is fucking atrocious but the playground fight happening behind Tom Hardy's direct backside obliterates the entire movie lol

It was very good for a movie about a guy who dresses as a bat to fight crime.

I shit you not, I always think of that line whenever that movie comes up and thought of it here, before I even clicked on the topic and saw what the video was. It was so bad it's been permanently burned into my psyche.
You haven't set a signature for the message boards yet
TDKR sucked. Which was both surprising and unfortunate after TDK.

Its literally the worst movie about a guy who dresses as a bat to fight crime.
I was super pumped up for this movie because the previous one was great and this was filmed in my home town and i saw the batmobile going down the street attached to a tow truck once.

but oh lordy was it awful.
I wouldnt say its great but I enjoy watching it. Usually if I get itchy to watch any of the Nolan films Ill rewatch them all in short order.
Why be stupid? Does it make you happy to be stupid?

Worse than guy who dresses as a bat WITH BIG NIPPLES to fight crime?
It was not great, but wasnt the worst movie Ive ever seen. The new Batman was definitely way worse in my opinion

Yes. Thats the third worst movie about a guy who dresses like a bat to fight crime.
It definitely wasn't good, but it's better than a lot of other Batman movies (because of how bad they are). It also provided the most memes, so it has that Spider-Man 3 factor (worst in the trilogy, but most memorable due to all the memes).

I disagree. Its worse than a number of Batman movies because of how bad they are.

Stuff like Batman and Robin and the Adam West Batman movie are hilarious because theyre so shit that they come out the other side and end up being entertaining.

TDKR is just bad, but not bad enough to actually be fun.
I dont really get Nolan films but people taking this serious takes the cake. How the fuck was this greenlit?
I know its bad, but I feel like the movie would have been at least 20% better if all scenes with Bane in them were at night. I would happily take another born in the dark monologue over that scene.
No matter our origin, we are all one family, we all share one planet, and we all need to feel loved and accepted. We are more alike than different.

Yeah after the Dark Knight who on Gods green Earth would greenlight a Batman movie? No logic in that move.

Yeah, the internet's collective hateboner for TDKR is only eclipsed by The Last Jedi.

And you can't convince me that the very same people wouldn't have had the same disdain for the myriad of flaws in TDK if it hadn't been singlehandedly elevated to masterpiece status by Heath Ledger.

TDK was massively overhyped. Ledger turned in a great performance but even so, it wasnt as good as Begins. The difference is though, despite it being overrated, it is still a good film. TDKR is not.
Not trying to run you over or anything but it is genuinely difficult for me to understand why one would prefer BB > TDK. Is it that TDK isn't Batman-y enough / is less of a superhero movie?

So it's true. Youtube does recommend all of us the same things, with just minor variations in the algorithm based on our history and location.

Thats part of it, I guess, in that it feels more like a Joker movie than a Batman movie.

But its also the setting. Gotham felt like Gotham in BB.

TDKR is/was a good movie.
Its problem is it had to follow TDK.
It was pretty much going to be looked down on from the start.

TDKR is the Assassins Creed 3 of Batman movies.
You got to play as Ezio for 3 games in a row of course everybody was going to hate on playing as Con.

Personally I go back and forth, tbh. TDK is a masterpiece overall, and Ledger's performance is worthy of every ounce of praise imo. On the other hand, I saw BB five times in theaters, I was so enamored with it at the time. In particular I'm an absolute sucker for the Tumbler, it's my all-time favorite Batmobile by a country mile.

And yes, you're partially right in that TDK is basically just 'Batman and the Joker in Chicago,' which carries both positive and negative effects depending on my mood. The positive is that it creates a more intense, this-could-actually-happen-in-real-life experience, but sometimes I prefer the more fantastical elements of BB's Gotham before the trilogy became completely grounded setting-wise. The stakes aren't as high in BB either, so the more lighthearted moments fit better - I know Scarecrow's gonna poison the city and so forth, but he's not the intense omnipresent gasoline-crazed murderer that Joker is.

I though it was fine.

Your enlightened critics would whine that it wasn't deep and meaningful and filled with people drinking tea or whatever boring shit happens in the films they like. And sure, it wasn't.

But it was an entertaining watch with some cool dialog, music and imagery.

---

For the record, that line was nowhere near as lame as when they decided Batman's catchphrase was going to be "I'm Batman." Which film was that? First reference I can think of was Batman & Robin but I don't spend a lot of time in the films before BB. They tried to make it a big dramatic thing in BB too. "I'm Batman."

Literally "I'm Batman." Literally introducing yourself is your catchphrase. Like it's his first vigilantes anonymous meeting.

"My name is Batman and I am the night."
"Hiiiii Batmaaaan!"
There's a difference between canon and not-stupid.

It's not CGI. Nolan got permission to rip apart and drop a plane into the Scotland mountains. The ziplining is real too. Enormous amount of choreography training necessary. To do the interior shots they built a simulator. To call TDKR "phoned in" is basically blasphemous. That's what I'm saying.

As to it being memed on, Baneposting started as a joke about the juxtaposition of the lines "you're a big guy... / For you" being a double entendre. Not because people think the scene sucks. You have to have a stick up your ass not to enjoy that scene imo

TDKR has some really good moments, but it overall does not hold up to scrutiny. Begins and TDK are still great.

Time and home-viewing / subtitles has softened this particular criticism to irrelevance for me personally, but the theatrical version had to have a different (and worse) sound mix, because I could not understand a single word that motherfucker said the first time I watched the movie.

Like yes TDKR is flawed and not as good as TDK but people pretend it ruined their lives or something.

Calm down.

First, I'm one of the biggest defenders of any media, most people know me for this. I try to enjoy things regardless. But some things are indefensible.

All I described it as "phoned in" because that's exactly what it is. It has the skeleton of a great movie, and after making 2 really good Batman movies, Nolan should have knocked this one out of the park. Instead, we get very wooden performances, extremely baffling dialogue and line delivery. Horribly executed fight sequences and a slew of other problems.

https://youtu.be/dzDe90df4eo?si=k0Kc-qTA8wxTadZR

I mean this clip alone from the OP has enough examples of all of those things. Yeah a person can nitpick the slapstick comedy fighting in the background. But even just the blocking of the characters is a baffling choice. The way Batman and Bane are standing and the position of the camera, this feels like a 16 year olds home movie of Batman. Not Christopher fucking Nolan's third entry into a billion dollar, beloved Batman franchise. It feels extremely "cheap" like there's zero heart that went into this film.

https://youtu.be/arty9MuqEg0?si=3P4d9jfa8BZOFx0f

And this scene that you linked. The dialogue in this is NOTORIOUSLY awkard.

Bane : It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.
[the Agent removes the hood]
Bane : No one cared who I was until I put on the mask.
CIA Agent : If I pull that off, would you die?
Bane : It would be extremely painful.
CIA Agent : You're a big guy!
Bane : For you.

None of these lines flow together, most of it doesn't make sense, and it ends up so disjointed and awkward. It's so close to something awesome. "No one cared who I was until I put on the mask" has become an iconic line and taken out of context it's fantastic. But watch the damn scene. It's horrible. it's so undeserved in this scene because...no one fucking asked? Like why couldn't the agent just say something acknowledge the mask to warrant this response? Such weird choices here.

And "It would be extremely Painful...for you" would be another great line with great delivery, but wtf is "You're a big guy" even doing cutting through the middle of that dialogue?? Horrible line, and ruins it completely.

To me it's cleearly Tom Hardy ADR'd waaay different lines than the scene they shot and the end result is a crap shoot.

I think the whole movie suffers from a combination of Nolan's heart wasn't in this one, and the editing team slapped together a first draft that somehow made it to theatres. Some better editing and maybe a couple reshoots could have saved it.

But unfortunately, the end product we got was phoned the fuck in.

imho
