Wouldn't that be a waste of money?

This can has been kicked down the road to different owners enough times that Fandom bought it cheap.

They dont need or care about the boards. The traffic comes from the guides/walkthroughs and they sell ads now.

The boards will completely go away in the near future.

Oh, so the site will become just the game database, FAQS, release data, etc without the boards, okay.

If I was insanely rich then yeah since GameFAQs and fandom are basically just worthless garbage

They are just kicking the degenerate loiters out. They will still use the sight for traffic.

Google says this site is only worth $60k. They outright don't want to put any work into this place. Once any issues are eliminated, DToast can handle this and like 12 other communities they own without issue. Right now it at best pays for his salary.
I don't believe in belts. There should be no ranking system for toughness.
Let's not forget they also bought giantbomb and GameSpot. I don't think its in their plan to buy all three known gaming websights just to kill them.

Wasn't GFAQs part of a bundle of companies they bought?
My metal band, Ivory King, has 2 songs out now - allmylinks.com/ivorykingtx (all of our links there so you can choose which one you'd prefer to use)
As others have said they bought it as part of a package with some other sites. Probably thought this place was just an archaic version of GameSpot and didnt realize that there even was social boards.

Then some pencil pushing suit was made aware of the political discussion and ass topics etc and freaked out about what advertisers would think if they saw CE.

Youll note that most of the mods seem to be against these changes, and DToast didnt make the announcement himself. Its all a money thing at this point. CNET didnt care about the bottom line. Fandom does.

Which if it wasn't for us contributors, this site would be nothing. And do we get a piece of the pie? Nope!

As if advertisers care ablut this place. Aren't the ads just generic shit anyway?

If they kill gamefaqs they can funnel more people onto their terrible wikis
I'm not who you think I am
They want the intellectual property and the naming rights. Possibly, the guides, especially the old ones where the users are no longer active in the community.

Yep. No Gamefaqs means less chance to have us take up a Google spot, especially for older games who likely won't have a very robust wiki.

And why have an adless guide that gives you everything you need on one page, when they can force us to click 10 times to read where to find one [Mcguffin] at a time, all with multiple ads and an unrelated autoplaying video?

I just got one that was a "find out if you are gay, lesbian or bisexual with this gay test"

And I thought either we weren't adult enough for that kind of content or gamefaqs.gamespot.fuckfandom.com didn't want to engage in that kind of content.

There are sites that answer questions for an hourly rate and you get charged even when they do not answer.

Perhaps the gamefaqs boards compete with these sites???

What traffic? The daily polls are getting like a few thousand votes. 10 years ago they were getting hundreds of thousands of votes, a decade before that it was millions.

The fact is nobody is using gamefaqs anymore when there's reddit or YouTube, much more interactive places.

GameFAQs was just a random thing as part of a larger purchase. Its the equivalent of a shed out back on the lot for a house that you bought.
Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

They don't want to shut it down. They just want to optimize doing fuck all while collecting ad revenue, like with wikis. I just don't understand this slow burn approach when they're being this dumb about it. Anyone with any experience dealing with people could have implemented the exact same changes without looking like corporate puppets.

I read the admin site post and it just said they were going to make this board private and cracking down further on horny posting and purg/suspension evasion. This topic and adjacent topics were making me think they were shutting down all boards.

Which yeah, I guess could happen but not yet.
