'Bout time. The game's been legitimately broken on Xbox for over 4 years now, this better do something towards fixing it.
Simple questions deserve long-winded answers that no one will bother to read.
Its gonna break all the mods is what its gonna do, as theyre no doubt tinkering on the core foundation of the game itself for such improvements to be made.

And before anybody accuses me of trolling, this has happened previously and has been documented by modders to boot.

I bought it on sale years ago, but never got around to playing it.

I hate to be selfish, but I honestly don't care about mods if it means the game's actually stable again. Ever since the last CC update in 2019 the instability / crashing has been off the charts; and that's even on a clean playthough with no mods, just DLC and roughly half of the CC content. I love console mod support, but FO4 has always been pretty limited in this regard compared to Skyrim. I just want to be able to play the game again without it crashing literally every 15 seconds in Downtown and dozens of other trouble areas across the map.

I'm interested in seeing how this modern update works on PC. I'll install it on GOG and see what happens.

I think everybody knows that updating games breaks mods. There's a reason why there's a strong swell of people who have not upgraded to the Skyrim Anniversary Edition.

To their mild credit, sometimes Bethesda can surprise you. The latest major update to Skyrim SE (aka paid mods round 2) snuck in a fix for a slowdown issue that has plagued the XB1 version since release: something weird about how trees were constantly looped to check for mods, so the more mods you had active the more framerate drop you'd get in heavily-wooded areas. Places like Riften and Falkreath now run smooth as butter for the first time in almost seven years.

Still waiting for Epic to give away the GOTY edition so I can start it over.

I played it on xbone or ps4 but I legit don't care about consoles anymore.
lolAmerica
Woo I've been waiting for this. I have it on PS4 so getting a better PS5 version will be nice. I don't like the game, but I am hoping it was just the poor feel of it and bad performance. Downtown will still suck though I'm sure.

Their recurring reasoning against this is that increasing the data limit would require forcibly wiping the player's existing mods / LO and requiring them to redownload, and any grayed-out mods you have that are no longer available online would be gone forever.

Personally I'd be devastated if I lost my years-long carefully-cultivated Skyrim LO with about 20-30 greyed-out mods. But I wouldn't be opposed to this in FO4, since I ditched all such mods when I moved to Series S in the vain hopes that it would improve stability over the XB1 (it doesn't, fyi; it just loads the game lightning-fast, so when it crashes I can get back to it in 10 seconds rather than 60).

On the other hand, uncapping the arbitrary 150 mod limit and making .esl's function as intended is well within their ability; they did just that with Skyrim's last big update.

Dude, no kidding! I've been itching for a new playthrough and wanted to on Xbox. Already have it on PS4, but wanted to get the achievements.

Yeah I wouldn't recommend getting invested in FO4 on XB until after it's confirmed on the user-end that this new update actually succeeds in making it playable again.

Plus it looks like they're gonna pull a Skyrim AE and make some of the best Creation Club content free to download (Heavy Incinerator, Tesla Cannon, X-02 and Hellfire Power Armor are all great additions, minus a few niggles like the Tesla Cannon not having a reload animation), so that'd be worth waiting for as well.

????? what did they break in this game. It used to crash from time and time but I used to just save frequently to prevent too much back tracking

Plenty of places beyond Boston metro as well - Quincy, Revere Beach, South Boston, Hyde Park, Malden, the list goes on. DT Boston is by far the worst - you're lucky to make it 60 seconds at a time before crashing around Haymarket and Faneuil Hall - but you're still pretty much guaranteed a crash if you go into these areas after playing for an hour or so at a time (restarting the game from dashboard usually resets this).

And you might as well write off any kind of populated settlement-building. Time was you could have higher than 30 settlers in certain areas and all you'd get was a little framerate drop; now you're lucky if you can have over 10 settlers in one spot without frequent crashing, especially if you actually plan on building anything beyond the barest of essentials.

Like, I genuinely want to meet the poor soul who manages to actually beat the game from start to finish on Survival Mode in the XB version's current state, given SM's ridiculous save restrictions.

I love the modding scene for these games, but it's not incumbent on Bethesda to forgo updates just because of the third party mods that *some* players opt to use

Game has been stable on PC for years with mods and looks better than their "next gen update" to boot. We don't need this bullshit on PC.

I did one full playthrough of Fallout 4 + DLC's and have never been able to get back into it despite several attempts. Maybe this'll make me try again.

If they never bothered to fix the precombines in Downtown Boston you're still gonna see your FPS tank by the way.
