I just farted.
When did I realize I was God? Well, I was praying and I suddenly realized I was talking to myself.

Yep, we all felt it. Everything shook. It's starting to trend on Twitter for NYC and Long Island.

When was the last time NY had an earthquake? SoCal guy here who always assumed never.
THANK YOUR FATHER KIDS!
I'm a few hours south of NYC and didn't feel anything. It must have been pretty minor.

I think the last time we had an earthquake over here was like summer 2011 I think.

I remember we had a little tremor like 10+ years ago and everyone on the west coast were making fun of us for freaking out about it

In CT, house shook a little for a couple seconds, wasn't even sure it was actually an earthquake.
Thus I became a madman.
It was a 4.8 magnitude centered in Lebanon, NJ.

I grew up about 4 hours north of NYC and the biggest earthquake I ever felt was when I was a kid in the late 90s waking me up at 7am. I lived in socal for 5 years and never felt anything even close to that.

Yeah lasted about 30 seconds for me

Was just going to confirm this from the AP news site, so pretty reliable

Wonder if it's fracking related?
Aren't we all just a series of tubes?
My mom and girlfriend texted me at the same time asking if I felt it. Girlfriend said everyone at the hospital was freaking out about it and that I should be prepared to flee my building. I told her it was fine lol.

All the time, they're just typically really small. We used to get tiny ones in SC every year or two that I never even felt. Although Charleston is "overdue" for a big one that might sink half of downtown into the ocean.

There was another one, somewhere close to 2001 as well.

New York is actually shredded by fault lines.
Particularly where we are from.
The Adirondacks are almost nothing but fault lines.
Lake George is a perfact, and most beautiful, example of a Horst and Graben.
Which is to say, the mountains along the lake are rising ((Horst)) ~Rise
And the lake bed itself is falling ((Graben)) ~Grave.

I have what I think is a piece of a slickenside that I got up on the that I got on that never-never land route that brings up from Ft. Edwards up to Ticonderoga. US-4. I could post a pic of it.

Anyway, shredded NYS.

Oh I wouldn't put much stock into that "overdue" stuff. People have been saying that California is overdue for a big earthquake for decades. We'll be fine

That's why I put it in quotes. It's overdue on a geologic timescale. There definitely will be a big earthquake but whether that's tomorrow or in 10,000 years no one knows. There was one in the late 1800s that leveled the city.

Apparently it was the beefiest quake we had in a century according to the telly news.
