I grew up about 4 hours north of NYC and the biggest earthquake I ever felt was when I was a kid in the late 90s waking me up at 7am. I lived in socal for 5 years and never felt anything even close to that.

It's overdue on a geologic timescale. There definitely will be a big earthquake but whether that's tomorrow or in 10,000 years no one knows. There was one in the late 1800s that leveled the city.
