Let's take the age of adulthood. Following the rule:

18/2 + 7 = 16.

Now, an 18 y/o dating a 16 y/o has potential legal implications, and might raise more than a few eyebrows.

Therefore, I propose the following amendment:

Yeah as long as you're legal, nobody should be telling you who to love imo. The biggest exception being severe power dynamic obviously

18 and 16 would be legal in most places, either due to a lower age of consent or due to close in age exemptions. And that's fine. 18 and 16 is not a problem. 30 and 16 is a problem, sure, even 20 and 16 is iffy, but 18 and 16 is not.

I would say there's nothing inherently wrong, but of course the potential for something bad going on is there.

The legal limits are just kind of an arbitrary thing we slap on because we need some kind of protection system going on; we acknowledge a lot of people under the age of 18 are fucking stupid because they're still underdeveloped, and cannot protect themselves. That doesn't mean everyone age 17 is unprepared, and that everyone age 19 is prepared.

The ONLY thing that should matter is that both are over 18. The age gap is not an issue.

I hate that rule anyway. It started as a way to say that the man should always be older than the woman he marries. And that formula was the ideal age gap for his new wife. Not the minimum of an age range, but her specific age. As in, if the man is 40, then his wife should be exactly 27 when they get married.

So yeah, fuck that formula.
