I always come across these Twitter accounts. They make these long ass videos explaining how nearly everything in pop culture is a hidden message about Satan. Is it just social media grifting or do people actually believe this?
Idiots.
Ave Satanas; Hail Satan, Hail Thyself!
Oh, people do believe in. It is anecdotal, but my parents are hardcore Christian. They believe there are malevolent spirits, demons, and Satanic influences in a lot of things.
Just a nobody. (They/Them)
depends on whether they think it's cool or not.

At least they're controversy had some bite behind it even if it was mass hysteria. With some exceptions of course, some crimes have been connected to satanic/occult themes but those are a relatively rare occurrence.

It reminds me of when I was a kid in the 80's. It started with trying to blame lyrics in music and that morphed into Dungeons & Dragons and being blamed on Satanic Rituals and Devil worship. Like every campfire in the woods was signs of "Satanic Rituals" I laughed and thought it was nonsense then.

People forget how strong the "Satanic Panic" of the era was. It was hysteria levels there for a good while.

To me, that shows that the people who go absolutely crazy about shit like that are idiots looking for attention, religious or not.

I work with a guy who subscribes to a lot of dumb-to-wild conspiracy theories, and he'll sprinkle in words like "luciferian" and "satanic" now and then. I don't really respond to it verbally, but when it's my turn to play music I'll put on stuff like Twin Temple (which he enjoyed and has played himself since then, funnily enough).

Yeah, anyone who didn't live through the Satanic Panic can't really understand how all-consuming the paranoia was. If parents, churches, etc didn't understand or like something, it got flagged as "from the Devil".

I have to think that if black metal had been a thing back then to the extent it is today, Bible-thumpers might have declared war on Scandinavia LOL.

I remember Guitar World magazine did an interview with Zim and Twiggy from Marilyn Manson (and this was a fair amount of time after MM's peak, so they weren't even considered that controversial anymore), and a couple months later they printed a letter someone wrote in castigating them for promoting Satanic ideals, talking about how Christians struggle "against demons of air" or some shit, and demanding a refund for their remaining subscription.

And then a few more months later, someone else wrote in mocking that letter writer, talking about how sad it was people thought an omnipotent God was bothered by music.

That's a clean burning Hell, I tell ya hwhat.
Save for your doomed future
I think they're goofy and probably paranoid.
I don't think I've ever known anyone like that, but I doubt I would choose to associate with them.
It is impossible to live in the past, difficult to live in the present, and a waste to live in the future.

Reminds me of my youth of everything be satanic. I thought were done with that satanic panic shit
while driving yesterday I saw a banana peel in the road and I instinctively swerved to miss it, thanks a lot Mario Kart.
It's literally left over bullcrap from the middle ages. Online it's all boomer conspiracy theorists who call themselves libertarian, listen to some Alex Jones "to see what the kids are saying these days," then boom "everything I don't like is satan and Hillary Clinton is literally a demon from hell."

We visited the Satanic Temple in Salem, Massachusetts on our honeymoon and they were honestly some of the nicest, personable people weve ever met.

Bought my favorite coffee mug from their gift shop and took several photos of us sitting on the big bronze Baphomet statue that they use whenever some nut thinks about putting up the Ten Commandments on government property.

They're incredibly stupid. Like I know I mentioned her several times, but my coworker is like that. She goes to incredible lengths to justify her logic. Like I showed her that simple magic trick to make a rubber band jump from two fingers to the other two fingers just to prove that magic is just misdirection and not literal magic. Did she understand and admit that she was wrong about illusionists selling their soul to Satan to get supernatural powers? Nope. She said that it was deception, and Satan is the father of all lies, so it's Satanic.

She still thinks that more flashy magic stuff is real and a result of Satanic deals though. Same with psychics too.

I feel thankful my parents weren't as hardcore catholic when I was a kid, as they are now. I feel bad for anyone who had to grow up under strict religious paranoia
I think they need to promptly see a doctor about their persecutory delusions. And I fucking hate the irredeemable grifters who plant these delusions in their brains in order to sucker them into their cults and drain them dry of money.

This.

They're being preyed upon by grifters and I'm usually of the belief that the people labeling everything as satanic would be more closely aligned with Satan than with God.

They make Satan sound pretty fucking cool most of the time.
More than that, they act like they think he's some kind of video game boss who can 'level up' and replace God if he gets enough worshippers. ^_^

Idiots.

I have a Christian friend who gets offended at anything even remotely horror related. I'm not saying you have to like the horror genre, but it's so annoying how he labels everything that's even slightly spooky as "demonic".

Even putting horror aside, he also gets weirdly offended at the song Twelve Days of Christmas and things like easter egg hunts. Yes, I'm serious. It makes me want to walk away when he's out of earshot and scream this...

Out of curiosity, are they a good enough friend to keep around despite that? That seems like such a deal breaker for me.

Satsnic, as in worship of Satan, is at best dramatic but more likely completely oblivious. But it's definitely filled with all kinds of content that could afford to go.

Well, there's a whole spectrum between the dumb stories about the guy who fell asleep and woke up with the lyrics finished and Satan laughing in his head, and just swearing off any kind of influence at all. I 100% believe Satan and/or his demons plant thoughts in people's minds, but I also believe he's neither omnipresent nor omniscient, meaning that only a handful of the most powerful/influential people get the direct treatment. From there, ideas spread like any other.

Only because they were there for me during a dark time in my life where I was feeling hopeless about not finding a job.

But sometimes when I hang around him, I'm pretty much Sheen in this clip, lol. Like, why do I even bother hanging out with this guy?
