Do they have evidence that dogs don't enjoy racing in the Iditarod? They just want to collect dogs used for dogsledding to euthanise them like they do with other animals they rescue
Do they have evidence that dogs don't enjoy racing in the Iditarod?Doubtful. Injuries happen, of course, and deaths aren't unheard of, but generally the dogs are well-cared for and they do a lot to ensure dogs are healthy at the start and monitored for injuries and other issues by veterinarians at checkpoints along the race, and they penalize/suspend mushers if there are signs of abuse.
1,000 miles of sledding dogs just for entertainment should be considered animal abuseIs that you PETA?
Me on the right

Let's take all those huskies and lock them in 1 BR apartments instead, that'll make them much happierThis is much crueler imo. Dogs have instincts to perform a job, Huskies have enough energy to run hundreds of miles a day as a result. People who limit them to an apartment and a walk once a day are just as much in the wrong and limit the dogs life and make it go stir crazy.
This is much crueler imo. They're being facetious.
They're being facetious.Oh I know what they meant, I was agreeing

I don't like that community note, simply because we don't truly know. Dogs do a lot of shit they may or may not be okay with simply because we, their owners, like doing it.
Oh I know what they meant, I was agreeingMy bad, sorry.
And while the extreme conditions of the actual race are a different story (though the breeds are well-equipped to handle the cold and long distances), from personal experience being around teams of dogs during Iditarod training, they seem to fuckin' LOVE the running and pulling.I mean, it's what they're bred for.
I don't see why any animal would enjoy serving people as a tool.

PETA is a pretty fucked organization because like another said yeah they'd likely just euthanize the dogs anyways, however it's illogical to think animals actually enjoy being our work/hobby slaves. They do it because of training and obligation.
I mean, it's literally in their DNA. You try and make a sled dog do anything but run all day and it's gonna lose its mind with boredom.
Entirely wrong. There's training, sure, but also literally thousands of years of genetic manipulation via breeding to make them want to serve. In this specific case, the dogs are also bred with the desire and capacity to run literally hundreds of miles in cold weather. They're more comfortable in the snow than out of it.
The cruelty is in taking dogs that are bred for specific jobs and trying to make them act as housepets. People who don't know about dogs shouldn't get to fucking have dogs.
Running all day doesn't mean they want to run while pulling a shit ton of weight.Oh, you speak dog? Interpret this: woof woof arf bark awoo woof grrr bark.
Running all day doesn't mean they want to run while pulling a shit ton of weight. So like do you support putting all dogs out of their misery since they are all work slaves, or....
So being a work slave is in their DNA is your argument. If only capitalists could tap into this power. Like I don't know how you think they could actually be bred with the literal desire to be sled dogs. Bred for the ability to do it well? Sure. Bred to be overly loyal to a species that domesticated them and so are noticeably subservient? Sure. Bred for a specific occupation? Nah.
Like I said, physically I don't disagree, but to say it's literally in their DNA that they want to pull over-weighted sleds is silly.
And I have trouble accepting that them being bred to be slaves means they actually want to. Like I said, training and obligation .
Running all day doesn't mean they want to run while pulling a shit ton of weight.Have you ever actually spent time around "working breed" dogs? Seen how they act when they get the opportunities to burn off a ton of energy vs when they don't?

I wish Muskrat followed through with his plan to remove users' ability to block others from seeing and replying to their tweets (or at least orgs and politicians). He couldn't follow through with it because it violated Apple/Google policy

The winner had to kill a deer right? It was a moose. A deer wouldn't be an issue, easily scared off by a pack of dogs. An angry moose could have killed them all.
