This was what I can only describe as a "nostalgia music video" from 3 years ago done by Bones (one of the best animation studios in Japan) with music performed by Bump of Chicken (one of the better JRock bands out right now). This is what Pokemon could look like if they put any effort into it:

The Pokemon shorts they post on Youtube (and the like) are insane with just how good they are.

Really highlights just how bad the act of being serialized has been for the actual series.

The transition into full 3-D is definitely when the decline started. Things didnt get terrible until the switch to the Switch, but I would not say that generations six and seven are anywhere near the first five.
