damn, seems pretty dangerous to try that without a spotter
holy shit that's crazy. I roll it off too, but I'm only 225.It took me about 5 years to bench 315, then another 6 or 7 to bench 350, and probably another 5 to hit 370.
How long does it to get gains at your level?
I wish I could do that. Those 1rm calculators put me at 280 but I haven't attemped a one rep max in years. It's definitely something you want to work-up to. 1RM calculators are good indicators but they can be pretty far off. 385 is something I've been working toward for months.
Just before this, I'd put up 365 very easily so I thought I had this. To make matters worse, the plates wouldn't slide off so I had to give that up and sit-up with it. No biggie though.is that really you? very foolish to not have a spotter

I haven't seen that user name in like over 10 yrs.wow , that's quite a memory you have
He clearly knows how to handle failing a lift and was even smart enough to know to not put clips on the sides (although so many plates that it didn't matter lol). I don't think he NEEDS a spotter.This. I know how to safely get out of a bench press fail and never go so heavy that the bar is liable to drop on me, which is what kills people.
That was impressive af even though it was a fail. You were so extremely close to succeeding.
are you still big on dirty bulking/taco bell or have u changed your mindLess so. I'm a fair bit more health-conscious as I reach my mid-30s.
Lmao, I'm working up to 160 right now.Good luck bro. Reaching 185 is going to be a sweet milestone.
Good luck on the goal. Pretty insane goal.
I haven't seen you post in years. Wtf.Lmao! I like to put dumb music over my fails so people know there's no catastrophe happening and everything was fine.
But with that soundtrack, I legit thought you were farting at first bc you were straining so much
Good try, man. How much are you weighing now? Do you plan to bulk up or anything to try and hit it?Thanks, I weigh about 225. I've already been bulking up to now and unfortunately will start dropping down in weight because I just signed-up for a new boxing gym as of this week. I'll still lift but am realistic about progressing on a calorie deficit.
Serious question, why don't you take low dose steroids?Good question! I compete in amateur powerlifting and strongman. They have drug testing on the powerlifting side, but even if they didn't, I wouldn't let myself compete when I'm on gear if I'm going up against people who aren't. I also want to have some boxing and Muay Thai matches soon, which would be even more unethical.
I have my own reasons why I won't take them but I've thought about them in the past.
I had that exact same thing happen to me years ago at 325lbs. I just had to roll it down and wiggle out, because I couldn't get it back up to rest it. I never went heavier than that. Not sure if I even could anymore. Maybe, if I worked back up to it.325 is no light amount to get pinned under, glad you made it out OK.
I have a rotator cuff injury and I fucking winced watching this. Good job staying alive. Thanks, hope you heal up soon. Pinching the shoulder blades back and holding the bar fairly narrow (pinkies in the rings) helps a lot in relieving pressure off the front deltoids. I credit that to being comfortable with the bar coming back down and getting stuck on my chest, otherwise my shoulders would be screaming.
Not safe, have a spotting partner.Been lifting without a spotter for 22 years and it's worked out fine. I never lift something I can't safely lower back down.
Lol, just throw in a few tablespoons of peanut butter, you'll end up being in a calorie surplus.Fantastic tip, but it's by design. I just move so much better for fighting at 205 lbs vs my current 225.
Honestly, I would've been more worried if I saw clips on the barbell than I am by a lack of a spotter.I actually only started going without clips this year because I figured I prefer being able to carefully wrangle that amount of weight off me versus having it whip to either side. I happened to try failing without the clips so the plates slid off and it worked fine so I'm going without clips, but as you can see in the video, I do just fine with the sit-up way. Having big quadriceps helps because they act like padding and keep the bar away from my junk.
For someone who knows how to fail properly, a spotter just makes things easier, but it's not necessary. If for whatever reason, you decide to lift significantly too much and it comes down too fast, idk if a spotter could even help in that scenario.
