Time to play Metroid: Other M, YIPPEE!

After years of claiming to be a Metroid fan, but having never beat Super Metroid, I am now done with Metroid OG/Zero Mission, 2 OG, and finally Super Metroid. Before I play Fusion, I have decided to play the two games that lead into it, which include 2 Remake (ending is a good set-up for it I hear), and the most beloved Other M.

I am glad the original Metroid team was able to redeem itself. Sakamoto, from what I hear, was trying to use Other M in order to invalidate the Prime series, and to try to appeal to the Japanese audience more since Metroid is really not cared about over there, but ended up making everyone mad.

He's a producer on Dread, but I don't know how much involvement he had considering that is his only role whereas he used to be the Director/story lead on the games. It seems Metroid was able to evolve past him even though he did lead some great teams before. Tbh, it seems like he enjoys the more quirky games like Tomodachi Life nowadays so it might be for the best that both sides get more of what they want.

I have to imagine the gameplay is alright, so it shouldn't be that bad of a time. I'm more forgiving of voice acting and dialogue compared to most people tbh, so it might even be good to me.

Currently on a Super Metroid run myself. Is wall jumping hard, or do I just suck?

I still need to get 100% but honestly, not really looking forward to that. There's a reason why I've only finished that game once.

One of those rare games where nothing about it is good.`
Damn, lol. Luckily, I'm not going for 100% for Metroid games, even the good ones! Going to try to get my fill of each and move on. Other M will not be an exception to that rule for sure.

I am a little surprised there hasn't been another tbh. Feels like the type of game that would have done really well alongside AC in 2020.

It was hard for me too, lmao. I still never really figured it out. I'm sure a video guide would probably explain it quickly and help out, but I tried to avoid wall-jumping as much as possible.

Don't accidentally softlock yourself like I did on my 3rd playthrough.
Without truth, there is nothing.

I'll try not to. I heard you can soft lock in Super Metroid, so I made sure I wasn't put in that situation either. If I ended up softlocking at the end of that game, I would have just done the SP edition on the SNES Online that gives you max upgrades and puts you right before the final area with all bosses already registered as defeated.

I guess I should mention, Other M's like the only Metroid game that has a postgame. After the credits you can go back into the game and you get a bit more story and an extra objective. It's mostly just for being able to freely explore (finally) and try to collect everything, but you can miss out on a pretty fun (IM0) bonus boss. 100% isn't required to reach that extra objective and boss, btw.

That sounds good. If it's not a 100% objective, I don't mind doing that.

A garbage pod!? It's a smegging garbage pod!
I love other M!
I had a blast!
Love it!
Gaming is a weird industry where you can scam the consumers with lies and fake promises, and there will still be fanboys defending it.

I enjoyed Other M. Not the pixel hunt garbage though.

Anyways if you're using all upgrade cheats make sure not to use Screw Attack on everything because that breaks some cutscenes.
or you could save yourself the heartache and not
The name is wackyteen for a reason. Never doubt.
Don't. I 100%d the game. It's not worth the time.

I honestly liked most of Other M. I hated the way you had to shoot missiles, the pixel hunting, the way Adam was portrayed, and what they did to Samus's character, but it was a really fun game for me. I played it through several times and even challenged myself for a low item run. It's certainly the worst mainline Metroid game, but good enough on its own.

I hate how the game butchered gravity cat (Nightmare) from Fusion . That pissed me off.

I actually didn't mind the main combat - sorta felt like it would've been a neat DMC-style game if it wasn't held back by the lack of options on a sideways Wiimote and had a bit more polish. I'm glad future 2D Metroids don't seem to mind including a bit more action influence with the parry mechanic.
