Taking the vote from people who you don't think will vote the way you want seems kind of a Republican thing.

Everybody deserves the right to vote.

And while I don't like the sheer amount of old people in Congress, experience does count for something.

I'd take an age limit of 75 in lieu of term limits though.
The name is wackyteen for a reason. Never doubt.

Holding office sure but saying anyone shouldn't have the right to vote is pretty fucking fascist
You're nearly a laugh but you're really a cry
70 as the upper age limit for holding office.

Voting should have no upper age limit, and the minimum age should be lowered to 16.

Shouldn't vote, disagree.

Pretty much.

I'd go as far to say that if you can get social security, then you can no longer run for office. But tying the two would only cause politicians to increase the social security age so they can keep hold of their power.

The age restriction. Sure. But taking away people's right to vote? Are you crazy?
I believe in the Golden Rule and you should too!

They have the right to vote. And they have the right to serve in office if voted in and can do the job.

To be fair, not endorsing it. Just wanted to see the discussion, as we already know the majority here don't think they should hold office.

once you're old enough, you should be able to vote for as long as you live, and I feel like we should make it easier for people to be registered to vote and to actually vote.

as far as holding office, I feel like the maximum age someone should be is 65 after term they're serving ends.
Don't you agree, Zach?

I agree on the holding office, not the voting.
I'm a ? Block. No, punching me won't give you power ups.
Obviously, they should be able to vote.

I think there are too many older people holding office for too long (and I say that as someone rapidly heading toward old fart city myself), but I think that is something that should be left up to voters. Voters are free to take age into account and keep a person from office any election. And some people would still be great leaders at 75.

Our electorate has made some shockingly dumb decisions in the last 30 years, with the aid of Fox/Rush/Newt propaganda/brainwashing. But this system of government means voters get to choose. For good or ill.

I dont even know why anyone would want a job like that at 75, even with all the power. If I am blessed to live that long, I plan to be sipping drinks and doing a whole lot of nothing by that point.
An opinion does not turn into a fact simply because the person holding it feels strongly about it.

This. I'm not okay with trying to take people's voting rights away.

A mandatory retirement age for people in government isn't a bad idea though.

I can agree with age limits for politicians at 75. I cannot agree with taking away their suffrage at the same age.

You still have to pay taxes when you're a released felon.

Though I always thought that restriction is asinine anyway. You should only have to surrender your civil rights when incarcerated (and maybe during probation, although that's dicey and may require case-by-case analysis). No point in keeping that restriction in place after a full term is served.

The only felonies that should bar you from voting are crimes related to voting. For everything else, voting rights should be reinstated the moment you step out of prison.

this. you can't take away their legal right to vote. old people are still part of the population. they just shouldn't be making choices for all the people that will have to live with their choices.

yea i agree. i still don't understand why a felon isn't allowed to vote. if you want them to wait like 5 years to make sure they'll probably stay out of prison then fine but no reason someone that commits a felon as a teen and gets out after a couple years should never be allowed to vote.
This is a sig
Agree, except I'd set the age lower than that. 55 would be the highest I'd be willing to consider.

It's not permanent and I saw that some states (a lot, actually) don't have a problem reinstating civil rights upon release.

I just happen to live in a state that won't. You have to petition the state government to have your civil liberties reinstated upon release.

Still the whole idea is pretty trashy. I don't know what good it does for something as mundane as letting someone cast a ballot that it isn't an automatic trigger when a sentence is completed.

taking voting away because of age would definitely be illegal
