i'm trying to think of a song. it is NOT Don't Fear the Reaper.

but it does something similar to something Don't Fear the Reaper does.

at the end of the guitar solo in Don't Fear the Reaper, the last note is sustained into some of the next verse, in the background. i heard Don't Fear the Reaper on the radio earlier today and it reminded me of another song that does that, but i can't think of what other song that is.

it could be another classic rock song, i'm not sure. it could also be like a 90s rock song. or maybe a metal song. i don't know. but i know there is another song i've heard which does that, that i really like. anyone have any guesses?

Don't fear the reaper, has what's called The iVIIVIVII (Am-G-F-G) Progression, which Stairway to Heaven also has.
This progression is very similar to the Andalusian cadence, or Am-G-F-E, this progression is one of the most popular progressions in classical music going back to the Renaissance.

good song, but no, it's not that one either. i couldn't say for sure that the song i'm thinking of has the same progression or anything as Don't Fear the Reaper, or any similarities at all except for the last note in the guitar solo being sustained throughout a sizable part of the next verse.

i dunno, i heard in the news that recently Will Ferrell's son's band was playing a gig and Will came outta nowhere up on stage and lent his bovine percussive talents to the performance... i might have to look that up in order to quell the fever.

Could it have been a Queen song?

yeah, i might try that

also i just did some googling to see if anything came up on other forums, and this result raises some intriguing thoughts:

https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/longest-sustained-guitar-note.655985/

one, that it could maybe be a Tool song i'm thinking of? even thought Tool doesn't really have a whole lot of guitar solos. also that it could be not a sustained note, but possible sustained feedback.....

uh, not really. i'm talking about a note that is sustained for a sizable amount of time, like halfway into the next verse. not many guitar solos statistically speaking do that.
