It's a derivation of the "homosexual panic" legal defense that was used to acquit the murderer of Harvey Milk. Basically temporary insanity due to intense fear of homosexuality/transsexuality. It's bonkers.
Worse still its actually had a fair amount of success in courtrooms, which is beyond bullshit.
going into a bathroom of the opposite sex when you clearly still look like your birth sex and still have those genitals are not "human rights"

Absolutely, and the sooner we treat transsexuals with kindness and grant them equal protection of law, the better

Kindness sure, we should treat everyone with kindness.
What protections do we still need to grant them to be equal?

The right to not be fired simply because the employer doesn't like their situation. It is legal to fire a trans person for being trans in over 30 states right now. This same goes for evictions as well.
Although it would definitely be super nice if we couldn't be just killed with no repercussions beyond general manslaughter in most of the states as well. It is a hate crime to kill someone based on a specific credential, and it simply is not legally treated as such in most of the world actually, let alone most of the US.
