Officials at the University of Utah Hospital refused to talk about this case but says they follow international guidelines for transplants and makes decisions on case by case. They said they don't give organs with patients with active alcohol, tobacco or illicit drug use or dependencies
Fair, next. Why should we waste a precious organ on a drug addict when there are plenty of deserving people in need?

They family is trying to transfer him to 6 other hospitals before the University of Pennsylvania stepped up and agreed to perform the surgery as a pair of lungs became available on March 31st
It being weed is completely irrelevant - the fact that he smokes ANYTHING, period, means he does not deserve the lung transplant. Transplants are not easy to get, which is why they have such extremely stringent rules for them. The fact that he would smoke while having such a problem with a lungs, shows that he doesn't take care of them, and somebody else deserves the transplant instead.

Thanks fucking god, that other doctor should have her medical license revoked.
Okay....I have a lung disease and will be looking at having to get this exact transplant very soon.
Lungs are the second hardest organs to harvest, especially lately since so many different things can damage them....and they need to go to people who are completely deserving of them. The list for lungs is not small, and there is a reason why they are so strict on the rules.

and let me guess you totally completely deserve them, right? you're a huge fucking deal. unlike this other kid cuz he smoked a couple blunts in his day?
fucking high horse you're on
I find it funny that a majority of posters itt are seemingly ignoring the fact that another hospital is doing the transplant in spite of this knowledge.

Aren't you literally a brony? How can you think of anyone else as degenerates?
Mark said Riley doesn't usually do drugs but had some weed after thanksgiving dinner when he met up with an old friend.
They literally would have let him die over smoking weed. What the hell.
Isnt it bad to operate on someone while theres THC in their system? Ive heard that but I dont know if its true.

The doctors who decided this should be stripped of their right to practice. They ignored their hippocratic oath. Do no harm my ass, they were willing to let a kid die because he smoked a harmless plant
Remember the death panels the Republicans were worried about Obama implementing. Surprise, it's a Trump thing instead. Kinda annoying how so many things they spent the last eight years decrying is okay under Trump goodra.

What makes you think these doctors made a Hippocratic oath?
There is a very strict guideline on who gets transplants. Smokers and drinkers get pushed further down the transplant list because of their past habits and choices. Transplants are decided on by a panel of doctors, not just one. If a majority of the doctors found that he wasn't deserving of new lungs, there has to be more to the story that is left out, after all, this is a duckbear topic. He loves to omit facts in his stories.
It sounds to me like they made a hypocritical oath instead, denying people life instead of saving their lives
