Both hardcore and easycore have metal roots. Easycore is essentially metal and pop punk had a baby

None of the above, because I don't like punk in any form.

Ironically, disco is about the only thing on that list I could even vote for in good conscience. Even more so in its later form once it evolved into things like Eurodance, Europop, house, club, and other 90s electronica.

They never did manage to guess the mythical one punk song I said I liked unironically and without qualifications.

Though in retrospect, I can actually think of a second song now by a "punk" band (technically more of a ska band, but still!) that I'd probably be willing to admit to enjoying fairly well. Both songs are generally from around the same general era though. So that would more than double their chances!

You are not gonna believe this, but I was literally listening to Reel Big Fish as I was reading the upper part of your post, and I thought to myself holy crap I wonder if the mystery band/song is ska punk! Ska is my favorite; I don't like Reel Big Fish though their lead singer's voice bothers me for some reason, same with Mighty Mighty Bosstones. I used to hate Mustard Plug for the same reason but they have grown on me...

Nothing - because it's technically the wrong kind of ska!

The song I'm thinking of is closer to 2Tone than it is to Third Wave.

(And that's still not the song I was originally thinking of anyway. That song is more just straight up punk as most people think of it.)

I'm pretty sure I gave you the huge hint in the last topic that you should be thinking closer to the 80s than anything else. Because that's pretty much my #1 decade for music preference in general. I'm hugely into Brit Pop, synth pop, "Sophisti-pop" (my favorite song ever is technically this), certain New Wave bands, hair metal, and a lot of different eras and flavors of club/dance. Which then evolved into later genres like industrial, electronica, Eurodance, and even, eventually, stuff like dubstep.

Basically, the sort of "punk" songs I like are the ones that actual punk fans tend to hate or be dismissive of.

I don't have one. I have favorite artist in many genres and prefer to listen to a blend of those genres instead of just one of them.

I love punk in all of it's forms. I chose hardcore, personally from this list because if you ask me what punk is, I think of late 70s and early 80s hardcore bands like Minor Threat, 3 quarters of Bad Brains, Bad Religion, etc. But there is so much to love. As mentioned, ska, two tone, third wave, ska-punk. I'm going to give a special shout out to screamo, because in my opinion it is hugely underrated but also gets a bad reputation because for various reasons, but the top bands in the genre do not disappoint. envy, Saetia, Indian Summer, Off-Minor, Orchid to name a few.
