Sega Mega Drive by a long shot.

So glad there was no naming issues in The United Kingdom and Sega Europe could use the far better name Mega Drive.

I think it's mostly just nostalgia. I've always thought Mega Drive sounded kind of lame, but Genesis is cool.

But I also would have preferred "Nintendo Dolphin" over GameCube. Exotic names are always cooler than simpler or utilitarian ones.

Same with the "Nintendo Revolution" ( waaaaaaaaaaaay better than Wii). Or Atari Jaguar and Lynx compared to the Atari 2600 or 5200.

Genesis is way better. It sounds mythical or something. Mega Drive just sounds like a 1990s "XTREME MARKETING" version of a floppy disk drive.

Genesis - Exodus would have been a great console series but unfortunately that didn't happen

I might even throw the Neo Geo into that mix. And honestly, TurboGrafx-16 is pretty goofy as well.

Plus if we count the home computer/console hybrids the examples drastic go up. The Pippin, XEGS, Adam. And then there's foreign/weird gimmick stuff like the Xavix, Zemmix, Zeebo, Playdia, Super A'Can, Loopy, Marty, Pico, Wondermega, X'Eye. Oh, and don't forget the Ouya!

There's been a LOT of goofy/stupid names in gaming.

Neo Geo is an awesome name for a console. TurboGrafx... yeah, sounds like a name of a fictional console from a cartoon or something.

The Casio Loopy is easily my favorite though.

I do agree that revolution would've been a way better name even if it does sound kinda arrogant. I think "wii" is kinda clever but also, as an american, it was inevitable that i would make dick jokes about it

Eh, then it's just clearly being named after the Bible, which doesn't make a ton of sense for something that has little to do with Christianity (or religion in general). "Genesis" as a first console name just indicates that it's a beginning. It doesn't have to go from there to a bible reference.

In the US it basically was. The Master System sold incredibly poorly here.

Europe's the only place it really succeeded. It didn't even do all that well in Japan (and neither did the Genesis/Mega Drive).

Same. When Mega Drive titles showed up on the Wii VC, I first thought it was something after the Genesis and was confused because I hadn't realized there was something other than Genesis/Saturn/Dreamcast.

Thinking even more about this, Mega Drive is an even worse name than I already thought it was. Where exactly is the drive on the hardware? It doesn't have a drive, it has a cartridge slot, which I don't know anyone that would call a cartridge slot a "drive".

I honestly don't have a huge preference between them. Mega Drive is painfully 90s by today's standards, but was fine at the time. Genesis I think retains its charm a little better.
