They weren't even close. Japan is a tiny island and simply doesn't have the manpower necessary to hold down large countries like China. China knew Japan will lose eventually and decided to sabotage and fight among themselves to capture power. Without US interference the war would've been longer but Japan will lose eventually.

And do you know who took them back? The US, therefore without the US, Japan would have continued to capture more land. No one else was stopping them.
One thing is a fact, the US did crush Japan and before that nothing was stopping them. So, I'll going to end this discussion with you now.
