Heavy metal by far. Heavy Metal is my soul, man. Rap can be okay though.

I like both. But rap ended when the clock hit 1990.

I was around then. I went to SOBs. If you weren't from NYC In the 80s you are. Pop artist not a rapper.

I've never liked metal, and have pretty much outgrown rap. I still like some of it, though.

Wanted Dead or Dead.
I don't like having to pick between two types of old garbage. Metal won't stop being like an angry german seizure and rap overvalues style and steals from other music. I'll say I dislike rap slightly less for relevance.
i like both
Metal, but I enjoy both.

Metal. I like some rap, mostly underground hip hop.
I can like some of each.
Used to love rap when i was in my teens most... But now as an adult I really just couldn't care all that much about either.
You ask a lot of questions. Whatre you doing with all these answers?

Metal is mediocre with the occasional hit, rap is shit with the occasional shit.

Metal wins.

This is kind of why I listen to underground hip hop, because there is still a lot of original stuff coming out there.
I love Slipknot so voted heavy metal. I'm more of a Nu Metal fan though and do like some rap. Even a mix of both metal and rap work such as bands like Linkin Park for example.

I love metal, rap can be decent but i don't really respect that genre. It glorifies crime too much, tho there are some hidden gems in rap.

As a fan of both rap and metal, I'd say it's pretty much always tongue in cheek with metal but usually portrayed as an actual lifestyle in rap
"Usually' is a strong word. I would say "a lot" is a better fit.
I grew up on Nu Metal, so I love both.

In fact, bands like Linkin Park and Deftones introduced me to heavier stuff like Dragonforce, Iron Maiden, Metallica and so on.

I despise current mainstream rap though, bunch of posers. All of the rap on my PC playlist is mostly old shit and/or underground rap (Army of the Pharaohs, Immortal Technique, Vinnie Paz and stuff).
The side of the fence that we climb determines who's afraid
Metal, easily. Even the best rap is still shit.

Hip Hop has always been my favorite genre. Metal is cool too though. Most good hip hop is underground but there are some decent popular artists bringing it back to the mainstream.

heavy metal is bad, but at least it's music. rap is pure shit
Generally not a fan of either. Replace rap with hip hop or metal with rock and we'll have a interesting decision.

This is what old people think, since rap kinda was born there.
I have to wonder why these questions are asked here. Most people here are indifferent at best to rap/hip hop, and a great deal of people vehemently hate it.

Yeah when I was on PotD years ago everyone hated rap. I remember getting The Dark Crusader and The Slurpee Man into hip hop because I obviously have amazing taste. :)

I think a lot of that is the inability to distinguish between the two, or total lack of understanding why just lumping Rap/Hip-Hop together detracts from their individual purpose. Rap != Hip-Hop and it's rare that the type that appreciates one also appreciates the other for the same reason. Where do I stand? I favor hip-hop, but honestly, there's a time and a place for both. Yeah, Krizz Kaliko:

is gonna be an explosion of talent and lyricism, and when you focus on ignoring rappers and looking for hip-hop artists, you'll find a lot of incredibly talented people even beyond the 90s... but for those who don't live their life behind a keyboard/have a noteworthy social life/actually go out on Fridays... that - along with most hip-hop - comes off as preachy. Say you liked that song I posted prior... you gonna like that when you're out with a group of socially acceptable people linin' up a soco train and having a good time? Probably not... that's when this this lyrically devoid, substanceless super-trappy shit:

becomes more appropriate.
