if it was a matter of paying to go there and winning an all-expenses paid trip, I'd likely jump at the trip but hesitate at paying myself since there are a lot of other places I'd rather see first.
I have no desire to visit China for anything other than checking off visiting all the Disney parks worldwide from my bucket list.
I don't think there's any place I just explicitly would not go with the exception of war torn/dangerous countries.
I've been. The countryside is nice.
nah. mostly because i'd be afraid of breaking a law I didn't know existed and what they'd do with me. which admittedly is a pretty stupid fear on my part, as I can't really think of anything I do normally that would be breaking the law in most any country really.

Enforcement of laws is often pretty lax in China, excluding first-tier cities. Plus usually the worst thing you might get is a fine or, in an extreme case, deported.
Haven't been to China but I've been to Vietnam.
It was a crazy experience but I definitely recommend going to a foreign country if you can.
Did you notice, were the more rural parts as difficult for white people, or any non-native person, as I hear with places in rural Japan? I hear that they can be pretty racist at times.
if I did it would be germany. yeah I know boring, another white people country. but i'd do it for ancestry reasoning and from pics i've seen its beautiful there.

Nah man go where you wanna go.
I went to 'nam for work. I was training some people there.
I used to think people who were like "bro you gotta go travel once in your life and experience the world!" were full of shit but it really is a cool experience.
I had a layover in Japan and did a little bit of exploring and everyone was so incredibly nice and accommodating to foreigners. Businesses put out signs that say "Foreigners welcome!!" and usually have a list of what languages their staff speaks.

Germany is a really beautiful country, I have been tp several areas of Germany, and really loved the Rhine valley. I would also recommend Austria. Though I have loved Europe each time I have gone.

oh I thought I had heard things about some US citizens being detained for stupid shit over there before. must be confusing china with some other communist asian country.

You mean the kids who were arrested for shoplifting from multiple stores who Trump managed to get them off the hook for their crimes only for an ingrate father to turn around and attack Trump? As long as you don't go shoplifting from high-end stores, you should be fine. And, if you do, just make sure that you're an athlete because the president will give you a Get Out of Jail Free card.
Would you want to if you could?
I've been. The countryside is nice. Cities suck
I hear people just poop on the ground in the rural areas like horses
