Do you think it was fair to fine him?

20 y/o Taylor Trupiano from Michigan was fined $125 for leaving his car running to warm it up in freezing temperatures and LOST his appeal to have it dropped!!

He admitted he left his car running on his driveaway to warm while he went inside for 8 minutes in January..which is AGAINST the law in Michigan

He appealed it on the basis that the law shouldn't apply to cars on driveways by Judge Marco Santina said otherwise. He said upholding the fine is "in the public interest"

His case drew attention from media outlets as he posted the image of how he left his car running.

He said he went outside in 20F temperatures and put the keys in the ignition and set the heaters running while he waited inside to warm up..when he went back inside after a few minutes, he saw the fine on his windshield with the cop gone!

He's a DJ and Best Buy worker and said Officer Keary should hve knocked on his door rather than fining him

The police said there is a rule to protect drivers as dozens of cars are stolen each winter from opportunistic thieves and it drives up insurance premiums of more careful drivers and inflates crime!!

Do you think it was fair to fine him? let's see what people think.

Taylor - Lost

This is a bullshit law.

He's not wrong. If it's on his drive he should be allowed to do that with his property. However it's the law that he's not allowed to so fair, next.

Considering this and his edgy little post, I don't feel bad for him at all.

Fair, next.

-6C? if it was -20C or under, ok, but -6C is nothing.
Sounds like a law that should be repealed. I couldn't imagine not being allowed to not warm my car up in the winter. I don't always do it, but when it's getting to -20C and lower it's a practical necessity. Having windows frost up while I'm driving because they haven't been defrosted yet is a hazard.

In all honesty, that law sounds more like a reason to generate revenue via tickets.
Against the law so fair. Stupid law though.

It seems that the guy left his car unlocked and running, if he had the car locked and warming is that still against the law?

Edit, otherwise, what is the point of automatic car starters?

Wondering the same thing. Especially cus they're basically a standard feature in newer cars at this point
My car has a remote starter that locks the doors before starting it, and shuts off the car as soon as the door is opened, preventing the problem of thieves being able to steal the car. I wonder if I'd be exempt from this law.

Mine does the same thing and I am also now wondering this.

WTF with all the "it's the law, so fair" comments? It's a bs law, so no, it's not fair.

Michigan has lots of bs laws they actually enforce, and the highest auto insurance premiums in the country by a huge margin (due...shocker...to a dumb law). I mean, I'd never want to live somewhere that cold anyway, but their own self-inflicted laws make me definitely never want to so much as travel there.
I bet the guy who gave the ticket and the judge who found him guilty both start their cars to warm them up on a daily basis
Stupid ass fucking law pretending to protect people but really designed to generate money from non-criminals.

You're not being fair, Sun!

Not only is it to generate easy money for the state government. It's also to protect the narrow interests of the insurance lobby at the expense of all the people in the state!

Its illegal to use someone's driveway to turn around. One of my friends got a ticket for that a few years ago...

Wow, I didn't even know that one.
See, that's what I mean. Michigan's so fucked up, I'd be afraid to even visit for a day, I'd probably get a bs ticket for something that I never would have thought was against the law.
In accordance to the law, yes it's fair. However, the law should be updated to prevent vagueness or abuse, as well as to cut down on the stupid.
let's build cities such that they require cars and then let's tax drivers virtually just by punishment for driving. good idea america
