Are you going with friends? I find going alone to be stressful. Helps to know at least one person, but if you have a naturally outgoing personality you should be able to enjoy it
If all else fails, the bartender is always the most interesting person at the bar
I'm going with my friend, who is used to being in bars. I'm not outgoing at all, but I thought I'd give it a try. If I hate it, I'll leave.
