I hear this quite a bit is there any truth to it really?

Look at OP. He was wondering if he was bored or depressed. The distinction can be subtle between depression and being bored/lethargic/apathetic/lacking energy etc.

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say almost everyone suffers from some form of mental illness. The difference is that it's at varying degrees, and for many people they are naturally able to keep it under check where they don't need to see a doctor. You could probably think of some instances where you (or those around you) are depressed, OCD or maybe have anger control issues.
