Is it unpopular to say that I actually preferred Breath of the Wild over Tears of the Kingdom. Playing Tears of the Kingdom felt like a really big DLC and it didn't hit me the same way Breath did. In addition, I really liked Champions over Sages and the abilities in general felt more "Zelda"-like in Breath. I just feel that awed by Tears.
I'm with you on this. Tears of the Kingdom felt a lot more...checklisty, for lack of a better term. Additionally, the sky area and depths felt underdeveloped, and while I know some people loved the building, it kinda just felt like a chore to me.
I think the worst part of the sky/depths is that I became less familiar with the main overworld since you're spending so much time going above and below. In BotW, I had a much better sense of where everything was along with the terrain between areas because of how you traverse it. In TotK I was pretty much skipping past a lot of the terrain and never really got to know the map.
I still enjoyed TotK, but it definitely didn't match the experience I got from BotW.
