He could have been saying as much being misled by his family members. Unfortunately, Jirard might have been treated as the fall guy. Might have been too good for the evil of this world.
He'd definitely be guilty of covering things up at best. From the call, he definitely was aware of it. Worst case, the whole thing was an attempted scam by all of them, best case family members fucked things up and he is guilty of inaction and covering it up.
