My cats are trained (as much as you can train cats, but they do respond to it) to stop doing whatever when you snap at them. Its a pretty decent rate of obedience, too. I have told my roomies and SOs that if they do something bad, please snap at them first, and then remove them from doing whatever if needed.
It took my SO a long time to get in that habit, he would make the tskkk noise at them and be upset that they didnt listen. And since the snaps werent reinforced when they were getting caught for things, the effect of the snaps went downhill, and they werent listening as well to anything. So basically he was undoing my training by not enforcing it. This isnt an issue if its occasionally done wrong by friends or something, but when its my partner living in the same house who also has authority on dealing with my pets, it has to be dealt with on the same page.
thats why I say check with her how shed like it to be handled, maybe she has an effective way that isnt pushing/shoving the dog that she wants you to use that respects the dogs mental health or whatever.
