i've lived in four houses that had a decent amount of spiders but not to the point of needing an exterminator. here's what i did:
southeast missouri: grass spiders and jumping spiders. my mom was terrified and killed all of them when i was a kid, but i let them go as i got older
azores, portugal: cellar spiders: they were in almost every ceiling corner and never bothered me. they got a pass
florida panhandle: jumping spiders. never killed one and loved having them around.
metro east illinois: brown recluses: yeah fuck that. bought some sticky traps and took care of the majority of them. kill on site.
