Dungeater posted... i disagree with your interpretation of the thread. I'm sitting here genuinely reading peoples logic and my inability to see that perspective is not for lack of trying What exactly do you need clarification on? Because you seem to be the only person in this topic that can't understand. Limelol posted... But as pointed out, that wouldn't mean git gud is deprived of purpose.Oh for sure. Earlier in the thread someone posted a bunch of alternatives you could say instead of "git gud", but what is a player supposed to do if they've exhausted all advice, other than give up? I know someone who was having trouble with a boss in Dark Souls, so he asked what the boss was weak too. Knowing that information won't help if the fundamentals of timing dodges and attacks isn't there. This same person was having trouble with Quelaag, and I literally did 99% of the boss fight for him and handed him the controller to do the last hit, and he still managed to die. Some people just need to practice the fundamentals more and don't need to be coddled. --- Spectre of Dark Aether ... Copied to Clipboard!

Dungeater posted... well because "git gud" is intended to be smug to someone, whereas "whining" is simply talking about a piece of media they likeIt's very often not, though, which is what I mentioned a few posts ago. Are you saying you really haven't seen a vent thread that goes like: TC: "This game is bullshit and poorly designed" 1: "You're probably not noticing X or Y, maybe even Z, based on your specific complaints. You can do <this> to avoid it. But also be on the lookout for <that> to make it easier to predict." TC: "You're lying that's not a thing" 1: "It is. Just try some more." 2: "It's as simple as that. It's not a lie." Only to have TC either double down on claiming you're lying, or resorting to dismissing your help by calling you a fanboy. Or both. If you've never seen that happen, good for you, but I've been 1 and 2 in that situation countless times. People who vent on forums, more often than not, are not looking for help, but rather, validation. It's why situations like what I described are extremely common. For example, there was an incident in Dark Souls 2 involving Aava, a boss one of the DLCs. Upon entering the DLC, there's a fork in the road and you can go left or right. If you go left, you get told to turn back. If you continue left, you get another warning. If you continue after that, a boss will attack you that's invisible with no noteworthy tells, something FromSoft had never done. You need to get a key item elsewhere for the boss to be revealed. Common sense would tell you "hmm, maybe I should go the other way if I don't like this", and well, considering the hundreds of complaints about that DLC and the fact that I only ever saw someone not pick up on the cues twice, it seems to be a message most understood. But someone made a thread complaining about how unfair the boss was because it's invisible. Not just normal complaining, but a full on tantrum. As you could guess, the first reply, aside from someone telling him "you might want to close this thread quickly", was someone pointing out the key item. Of course, he claimed that was bad design, so then people chimed in posting about the warnings. Do you think that the TC in that thread realized his mistakes, learned from it, and everyone held hands and became best friends? Nah, if only. That thread went to 500 posts and TC was there until the last because of exactly what I said. Typically, people who make threads like that aren't doing so seeking help, they're looking for validation. --- If you see this and this post looks too long, you can ignore everything after "For example". Everything after that is just context of one of the more memorable experiences. --- "That is so fetch!" ... Copied to Clipboard!

Dungeater posted... i disagree with your interpretation of the thread. I'm sitting here genuinely reading peoples logic and my inability to see that perspective is not for lack of tryingIf you are genuinely trying to see someone elses point of view, you need to temporarily drop your own biases because theyre already making you see others opinions unfavorably. At least start with, maybe there are times when whining is understandable, and at other times verbal flailing wont get people to want to help you. If you arent willing to accept any nuance to the discussion, then I wouldnt think youre genuinely trying to understand someone. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Limelol posted... Yeah, I think everyone can agree that there's never a situation where a more detailed answer would be worse than "git gud". Maybe a wasted effort at most, but it'd be better. But that purpose is what's called into question. At BEST, it's matching troll energy with troll energy.
