Sit at the table at dinner growing up. I retreated to my room or the other room due to I disliked being watched while I ate and the fact I can't stand the sounds of other people eating.

Has anyone felt this way or nah?

My older sister would often criticize others for making sounds while they ate, or how they held their utensils, etc. Most paid her little mind. Obnoxious prude that she was, no made-up standard was high enough, so we just learned to not give a crap. Even at the last Thanksgiving we invited her over to, over a decade ago now IIRC, I still caught her glancing at people's hands disapprovingly.

That would make me nervous and uncomfortable. My grandparents didn't care if I ate alone, they were respectful. Parents however... dad would just stare at me eating.

Mom and Dad usually sat in the living room while my 2 brother and I sat in the kitchen

Trying to get my wife and kid to sit and eat together as much as possible, but he's constantly distracted and she's on her phone

I did the same because I couldn't stand the dinner table basically being my father complain about work the whole time
