They also have very different and much less intelligent brains. You are able to interpret why you are being sprayed with water, you put yourself into a situation where you expected to be sprayed with water. The cat did not. It thinks it assaulted by water for no reason. That has a negative psychological impact on the cat. And it isn't going to cause and effect it.
