"Tokyo City Pop" is such a broad, seemingly meaningless term created by TikTokers, I've seen music described as such that is definitively NOT pop like Hako Yamasaki and Yoshiko Sai's music from the 70's (although really good). Also, not sure what you mean by "weeb shit". Of course it's going to come from Japan, that's its defining feature.

Personally, from what I consider to be best qualified as Japanese Pop from the 80's, I like Taeko Onuki the best with her well defined, yet unpretentious singing. And anything from Anri is just fun. Used to be big on Tatsuro Yamashita but I kind of got bored of his music.

Although technically, Onuki dips into late 70's, too. I actually like music from that decade more.

Also Akiko Yano, I've recently gotten into her and her career has been looooooong. Found out she was married to Ryuichi Sakamoto which makes a whole lot of sense.
